Rosie 's Walk
Rosie's walk.
Rosie's walk. By Pat Hutchins. In this book, a cunning hen outwits a wily fox.
A hen is anothername for a chicken. In this book the main character Rosie is a hen.
Hens often live on farms in hen houses. Rosie leaves her henhouse at the beginning the book to go on a walk. You'll never believe the adventures. She doesn't even know she has after she leaves the henhouse.
A fox is a wild animal. In real life Fox try to eat hens. I wonder what will happen with the character Fox in this story.
This is a pond. A pond is a small body of water. There are often ponds on farms so that animals can get a drink. If an animal wanted to go from one side of the pond to the other, how would it have to go? As the animal can't swim, it will have to go around the pond.
What is this? This is a beehive. Beehives can be found in nature where there aren't any people but sometimes farmers like to keep bees on their farm so that they can eat their delicious honey.  Bees live in a beehive.
What do you think this is? This is a haystack. If something light were to try to walk over the haystack, what would happen?  Would that be the same or different if something a little heavier walked over the haystack? Look in this book notice what happens.

This is flour.  You probably eat flour every day. Flour is made from this plant. It's called wheat. Wheat is often grown on farms and then ground up into tiny little bits by a mil, a giant windmill with rocks attached at the bottom to turn it into flour that we eat. We use flour to make yummy cakes and bread.
This is a mill. A mill is what turns the wheat into flour. Look at the word flour: f-l-o-u-r. When flour in  a large bag like this, do you think it's heavy or light? Try to notice the page in this book where it says flour: f-l-o-u-r. flour.
On Rosie's adventure she will go across something, around something,  over something, past something through something and under something. When we finish reading the book, see if you can remember what Rosie went across around over past through and under.
Rosie's walk. By Pat Hutchins.
Do you see the two main characters on the title page? There's the wily fox and there's the hen Rosie who's more clever than she even knows.
Here's another title page showing you the whole farm.
Can you see the mill in this picture?
Can you see the haystack in this picture?
Can you see a fence in this picture?
Do you see beehives in this picture?
Do you see a henhouse in this picture?
Let's read and see what happens.
This is called the dedication page.  Pat Hutchins the author wrote this book for Wendy and Stephen.
Rosie the hen went for a walk. Who do you see following close behind the Rosie the hen?
Across the yard. What is this tool? 老师指着耙子问(rake)what do you think will happen next? Will the fox catch Rosie?
Were you right?
Around the pond. Will the fox catch Rosie this time?
Were you right?
Over the haystack. Do you think Rosie is a light weight or a heavy weight?  Do you think the fox is a light weight or a heavy weight?
The fox must be heavier than Rosie.
Past the mill. Do you see the word we were looking for? Flour, f-l-o-u-r.
The heavy bag of flour is hanging from the mill that ground the wheat and turned it into flour. Do you think the fox will catch Rosie this time?
Uh-oh. Lucky for Rosie.
Through the fence. Oh, no Rosie. I think he's going to get you this time.  What do you think?
Not this time.  What is Rosie heading for now?(复习巩固单词beehives)
Under the beehives. That silly fox. Would you want to upset the home of bees?  What do you think will happen to that fox and Rosie next?
Where is the fox going? He is not following Rosie anymore.  Why is the fox running away?
And got back in time for dinner. Rosie's back home at the henhouse and the farm is safe from the fox for another day.
There's a fox.
Can you point to the fox?
What is the fox doing?
Have you ever seen a fox? Do you like the farm?
This is flour.  You probably eat flour every day. We use flour to make yummy cakes and bread.
Which word means where bees live?
Shall we take a walk around the pond?
