第61期：In the Bag十拿九稳，胜券在握
周末小小常和同学一起去体育场踢足球，常爸也跟着去观战。
常爸
Wow! What a great game! You are such a fantastic soccer player, Victor!（哇哦！你们的比赛好精彩啊！小小常，你足球踢得真好！）
小小常
Thank you, Dad. But we lost in the end.（谢谢你爸爸。但后来我们还是输了。）
常爸
 I really thought that you had the trophy in the bag!（我真的以为你们已经有奖杯“在袋子里”呢!）
小小常
 A trophy in the bag? What do you mean?（奖杯“在袋子里”？这是什么意思？）
常爸
It means that I thought success was certain! Your team would win in the beginning, but the other team turned out to be stronger in the end. （意思是我原以为你们胜券在握！刚开始你们队看起来稳赢，但可惜对手还是更胜一筹。）
小小常
That is true. But we will have the championship in the bag next time! （没错。但是下次我们会赢的！）
常爸
That is a great attitude! Just keep practicing!（说得好！继续加油！）
小小常
I will, Dad!（我会的，爸爸！）
根据韦氏词典，“in the bag”主要有两个意思：

肯定的，有把握的，十拿九稳的
据说，美国国家橄榄球联盟的纽约巨人队（New York Giants）有一个迷信的说法：如果想在比赛中领先，那么就要看管好自己队伍的球袋，直至球袋安全返回到俱乐部里。因为胜利就装在这个袋子里，如果把它弄丢了，就会输掉比赛。
后来，人们开始用in the bag来形容“十拿九稳”，跟汉语中的“已是囊中之物”的说法非常类似。例如：
The election is in the bag unless the voters find out about my past.
只要那些选民不知道我的“黑历史”，这次的选举我志在必得。
My efforts pay back finally. I've got a job in the bag.
我的努力总算没有白费。我找到了一份十拿九稳的工作。
You've been learning so hard these days that the final exam must be in the bag for you.
你最近学习这么用功，想必期末考试你肯定没问题。

（美国俚语）喝醉的，被酒精迷了心智的
这个用法主要出现在北美地区，通常用在非正式场合，例如：
John is in the bag and mean as hell.
约翰喝醉了，并大发脾气。

除了in the bag，其他表示“十拿九稳”的短语还有：
✍on the cusp of victory
cusp表示尖头，尖端。“on the cusp of victory”即在胜利的边缘。例如：
Father, we are on the cusp of victory.
父亲，我们已经胜利在望了。
✍in the cards
这个短语虽然有“card”，但意思与赌博毫不相干，“cards”在这里是算命先生用来推测人命运的。如果有人提起一件事的时候使用in the cards，那么说话的人认为这件事十有八九要发生。比如：
You are going to meet a tall, handsome man. It's in the cards.
你命中注定会遇上一名高大英俊的男子。
✍in one's hands
表示由……掌握。例如：
Yoga helps put your health in your hands.
瑜伽能帮你健康在握。
