The ball is in your court!
Mike
Thank you for inviting me. But ... you know, I can't speak Chinese and I have no experience in live-streaming.
You don't need to give a speech. I will be your interpreter. Anyway, the ball is in your court.
总之,the ball is in your court.)
小小常
The ball? Where is the ball? I didn't see it!
Mike
Ha ha, Victor! There is no “ball” here. Your dad was saying the idiom-the ball is in your court.
常爸刚刚说的是一个俚语——the ball is in your court.)
小小常
The ball is in your court ... then what?
Mike
Think about it, when you play tennis and the ball is in your court, it's your turn to play and react.
So it means “it is my turn?
Mike
Right, Victor!
The ball is in your court!
I have done my best to explain my position; now the ball is in your court.
这个短语最早出现在20世纪,源于网球运动,正如Mike所说,“The ball is in your court” 的“ball”是指网球,“court”是球场的意思,像篮球场就是“basketball court”,网球场就是“tennis court” 。
This is Henry Higgins calling about the Brown divorce case.
I'm sending you Mr. Brown's offer to pay your client a thousand dollars a month for child support.
Now the ball's in your court: let me know whether Mrs. Brown agrees to this amount.
—Are you going to make up with Jason?
—Well, I sent him an invitation to my birthday party so the ball is in his court.

那么,除了“the ball in somebody's court”,还有哪些与球相关的有趣短语呢?
—Fred is the best person to take control of this project.

—I agree with you. He is always on the ball and works really well under pressure.

● Keep one's eye on the ball
—Marshall came to me again.

—Stop thinking about what he wants, this is an important stage in your career and you need to keep your eye on the ball!
