长期以来，加拿大华人对加拿大政治的参与，充其量只是礼节性的和象征性的。的确，我们有国会议员，省议员，市议员、学委，但他们往往不是后座议员，就是在当地社交晚宴上充当发言的贵宾。

我们还没有看到一个华裔市长、省长或内阁部长，那种能够在政坛上扮演真正有份量的和有实质性影响的角色，并在加拿大的三级政府的政治生活中发挥重要作用的政治人物。

在这方面，印度裔加拿大人就取得不错的成绩：他们已经创造了历史，产生了一位省长、几位内阁部长和省级部长。从他们的身上，我觉得我们华裔需要更加努力争取做得更好。

我希望，现在是我们加拿大华人创造历史的时候。在所有BC 自由党党领候选人中，李耀华最能代表我们BC省的多元文化和多样性，更重要的是他具备了"政治中的专业精神" 说到、做到，会去实现他所承诺的目标。

如果他当选为BC自由党领袖，并且成为BC首任华裔省长，那是具有里程碑意义的，无疑是向全省人民发出一个明确而响亮的信息，那就是，像李耀华这样具有多元文化背景多和足智多谋的领导人是领导BC省在日益多样化和跨文化的世界中脱颖而出的最佳选择！

Why  I support Michael Lee

For too long the Canadian Chineses involvement in Canadian politics has been, at best, ceremonial and symbolic. True, we have MPs, MLAs, City Councilors, School Trustees, but more often than not, they are either back-benchers or honored guests giving speeches at local social dinners.  We have yet to see a Canadian Chinese  mayor, a Premier, or a cabinet minister who can really play a significant and substantial role and make a difference in the Canadian politics, whether at municipal, provincial or federal level.

 In this regard, the success of the Indo-Canadians, who have made history by turning out a Premier and several cabinet ministers and provincial ministers, has got me thinking:  we could do much better. 

It is, I hope, time we Canadian Chinese make history as well. Michael Lee, of all candidates, best represents the multiculturism, diversity, and more importantly, " professionalism in politics" that can deliver what has been promised. 

His election as the Leader of the BC Liberal Party and inevitably as the first BC Premier of CBC origin is of milestone significance in that it will send a clear and loud message to the British Columbians that a leader as diversified and resourceful as Michael Lee is the best choice to lead BC to excel in an increasingly  diversified and cross-cultural world!
