Resumption of Visa Appointments in China
The AAU reports, according to the South China Morning Post, that the U.S. embassy and consulates in China have resumed visa appointments for students. Students and scholars are advised to check the Visa Appointment Wait Time website for information.

COVID-Related Travel Restrictions Eased for Students
On April 26, the U.S. government extended the National Interest Exceptions (NIEs) for COVID-Related Proclamations to permit students from China, Brazil, Iran, & South Africa to travel to the United States for programs beginning after August 1.

Digital I-20 Issuance
Starting Thursday, April 29, the ISSO will email a digital I-20 in PDF format for requests from continuing students submitted for OPT (all types), CPT, Extensions, Travel Signature and I-20 Reprint, and Dependent I-20. These do not apply to initial I-20s. DS-2019 forms for J-1 students and their J-2 dependents will continue to be shipped. If you receive a digital I-20, be sure to print and sign it.

从4月29日起，ISSO将通过电子邮件发送PDF版I-20，以供返校留学生用于申请OPT、CPT、签证延长、旅行签字与I-20重印，以及家属I-20。该电子版不适用于初次申请I-20的学生。持J-1签证的学生与其持J-2签证的家属的DS-2019表仍将以纸质版形式寄出。收到电子版I-20后，请务必打印并签名。

Tax Reminder
May 17, 2021 is the deadline for filling 2020 tax returns. IRS requires Form 8843 from all Fs and Js who are nonresident aliens for federal tax purposes and were physically in the U.S. at any time in 2020, even if you had no U.S. income in 2020.
