莱镇作家戴微娜·兰德尔 (Weina Dai Randel) 的新小说《夜天使》(Night Angels) 在新年伊始正式全面出版发行。这是戴微娜继发行《上海最后的玫瑰》、以及关于武则天的历史两部曲《宫中的月亮》和《明月皇后》后的第四本书。该书是根据中国外交官何凤山博士的真实故事改编的历史小说。何凤山博士是被誉为”中国辛德勒的英雄“。

该小说描写了一位来自波士顿的内向的混血儿女性，一位谦逊的外交官，他必须在希特勒暴行的高潮中平衡自己的职业生涯，一位年轻的犹太女音乐家面对暴力的熊熊烈火，以及成千上万处于期间风口浪尖的维也纳犹太人的命运。

何凤山博士被以色列犹太大屠杀纪念馆誉为国际义人。他违抗上司的免签证令向维也纳的犹太人发放了数千份签证，协助他们逃离纳粹德国前往上海。因为何凤山的签证，大约有18,000 名犹太人逃到上海并在大屠杀中幸存下来。

该活动还将特别邀请了何凤山博士的孙子和他的家人出席。

该活动将由小说《巴黎书商》(The Paris Bookseller) 的作者 Kerri Maher 主持。讲座后将安排作家戴微娜签书活动。

关于作家戴微娜 - Weina Dai Randel

戴微娜出生在中国，二十四岁时来到美国，并开始用她的第二语言（英语）说、写和做梦。她拥有德克萨斯州丹顿市德克萨斯女子大学的英语硕士学位。她曾担任南新罕布什尔大学 MFA 项目的主题专家和伊斯特菲尔德（Eastfield ）学院的兼职教授。

戴微娜·兰德尔目前已出版了四部历史小说，分别是《夜天使》、《上海最后的玫瑰》、《宫中之月》和《明月皇后》。她是 RWA RITA 奖的获得者、国家犹太图书奖决赛入围者和两次Goodreads Choice Award 决赛入围者。她的书已被翻译成十二种语言，包括俄语、西班牙语、葡萄牙语和希伯来语。

戴微娜是第一位写二战期间华人和犹太人在中国经历的美国作家。

戴微娜是《書语莱镇》专访的焦点人物之一。 "書語萊鎮" (ReadLexington) 是由莱镇华协创办的中英双语专栏，它的焦点关注居住在我们身边的当地作家。書語萊鎮旨在宣传莱镇人撰写的书籍，分享作家们创作写书的过程和记录日常生活的一瞥。在宣传他们取得的成就同时，鼓励大家一起阅读莱镇人的著书。透过这些散发着温暖、明亮的莱镇人文之光，体验百年小镇深厚的璀璨文化和历史底蕴。

Lexingtonian author Weina Dai Randel will discuss her fourth book, Night Angels, a historical novel based on the true story of Chinese diplomat Dr. Ho Fengshan, the hero hailed as Chinese Schindler.

This novel features an introverted biracial woman from Boston, a humble diplomat who must balance his career at the rising tide of Hitler's brutality, a young Jewish violinist confronted by the blazing fire of violence, and the fate of thousands of Jews in Vienna on the cusp of WWII.

Dr. Ho Fengshan (何凤山), honored as Righteous Among Nations by Israel’s Yad Vashem, defied his superior’s no-visa order and issued thousands of visas to Jews in Vienna so they could flee Nazi Germany to Shanghai. Because of his visas, about 18,000 Jews fled to Shanghai and survived the Holocaust.

The event will also feature special attendance–Dr. Ho Fengshan’s family.

The event will be moderated by Kerri Maher, author of The Paris Bookseller.

Weina Dai Randel is the author of four historical novels, Night Angels, The Last Rose of Shanghai, The Moon in the Palace, and The Empress of Bright Moon. She is the winner of the RWA RITA Award, a National Jewish Book Awards finalist, and a two-time Goodreads Choice Award semifinalist. Her books have been translated into twelve languages, including Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Hebrew.

Weina is the first American author who wrote about the Chinese and Jewish experiences in China during WWII. She is featured on ReadLexington, a bilingual blog by Chinese Ammerican Association of Lexington(CAAL) to promote books wirteen by Lexingtonnians. ReadLexington aims to promote books written by Lexingtonians, offers readers a glimpse of authors' creative process and daily life, and encourages everyone to read their books.
