We are very grateful to 'The Never Fading Poppy Project' which is under the leadership of the Chinese American Association of Lexington, for delivering a large number of 'Thank you' cards to benefit the Veterans at Bedford VA, the Healthcare Workers in Lawrence Community Health Centers, and the essential workers in Lexington.
The NFPP youth were instrumental in facilitating the card making activity for MLK 2022 Day of Service. They eagerly volunteered to reach out to the community through their volunteers and targeted the youth in neighboring communities as well. They carried a very well-organized card drive, with frequent updates to me, and included a set of photos of all the cards they delivered with due credit to their volunteers.

A creative crew of 37 children made a total of 351 beautiful and empathetic cards. The cards had impeccable detail and the note inside the card was very thoughtful and heartfelt. The Healthcare workers of the Lawrence General Hospital were very touched to receive a total of 500 cards from the Lexington community, 144 of which were fulfilled by the NFPP. The 100 essential cards, half of which were decorated by the NFPP, are put up on display at the Community Center for all to enjoy. The 400 cards to the Veterans are staged to be delivered soon.
I really enjoyed working with The Never Fading Poppy Project and the Chinese American Association of Lexington, and look forward to many more opportunities to work with them in the future.
Thank you very much.

Fifty-nine years ago, Martin Luther King delivered the speech "I have a dream" on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. On January 15th this year, we drew cards in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. And also to thank those who have contributed to society, including American veterans, front-line healthcare workers, and those who have contributed to stopping racial discrimination. I participated in this event to thank those who helped us.
Luke Wei (age 15, grade 9)
I made 5 cards that thanked veterans for their service. It was a great way to thank them because it was covid safe and the cards will make them happy.

Participants of the Never-Fading Poppy Project created MLK Day cards that were delivered to veterans, essential workers, and healthcare workers. These workers all make great contributions to our society, so sending cards was a fun and covid-safe way to show our appreciation towards them.
Alice Yin (age 11, grade 6)

I really enjoyed the process of making cards.  I hope that the cards that have been created give joy to veterans, healthcare workers, and essential workers.  The project inspired me to appreciate the bravery and work all of these workers do everyday to keep everybody safe.

MLK day gives us a time to commemorate the work of Martin Luther King Jr. and this year in honor of him we thanked the service of others. Through creative cards we showed our appreciation for essential workers, healthcare workers, and veterans. Making cards offered a way to convey our gratitude which can’t always be expressed through words. It was also covid safe and relaxing!
Che Liu (age 15, grade 10)
I made my cards because many of these people sacrificed a lot for the sake of our everyday lives. Their sacrifice is the reason I have the time and resources to dedicate to art. Without them, I would not be living the way I am living now. Dedicating a card is the least I could do to show my appreciation.
Christabel Chiu (age 14, grade 9)
Making the cards was fun and relaxing. It gave me an opportunity to thank the service of veterans and honor Martin Luther King while being Covid safe.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech emphasizes the unity of time in bringing together the American Society, an invitation to dream along with him. For the 2022 MLK Day, the Never-Fading Poppy Project brought together children of various ages to celebrate veterans, healthcare workers, and essential workers, along with King, in order to show our gratitude to those who have impacted our world for the better. I am honored to have had this opportunity to take lead in this project, helping more participants to find a way to express their appreciation in the form of art.
Alexandra Whitney (age 15, grade 9)
