在德国奥斯纳布吕克的摩根兰音乐节现场录制的《远山》是一张由中国古典巨星吴蛮（琵琶）和吴巍（笙）合奏的二重奏专辑。两人本身都是传统音乐的创新者，但这场音乐会被赞誉为是两人之间的第一次相遇。两位演奏家都在他们各自乐器演奏领域的最前沿发挥了多年的创举作用，这一点在这张专辑出色的演奏中得到了充分证明。

Recorded live in concert at the Morgenland Festival in Osnabruck, Germany, Distant Mountains is an album of duets by Chinese classical luminaries Wu Man (pipa) and Wu Wei (sheng). Both are innovators of traditional music in their own right, but this concert was billed as a first encounter between the two. Not that this is evidenced by the stellar performances here, with both players drawing on their many years at the forefront of their instruments.

The ethereal opening "Reflection of Tang Dynasty" demonstrates the impeccable blend between the two, with the pipa's delicate bends and harmonics beautifully supported by the otherworldly polyphonic swells of the sheng. The majority of the set consists of the pair's own arrangements of pieces from the traditional canon, with repertoire commonly performed by solo pipa given a satisfying new dimension, especially on the tranquil ebb and flow of "Flute and Drum music at sunset" and a particularly sunning rendition of "Dragon Dance". On the latter, the sheng's discordant opening clusters build to a thrilling performance, with the pair going on numerous improvisational tangents before returning to the climactic theme.

Other album highlights include the diverse modality of "Kazakh Style", and the titular "Distant Mountains". The set ends with "Silk and Bamboo" , a charming improvisation on the theme of popular pipa concert piece "White Snow in Sunny spring, concluding an album of unquestionable spontaneity and virtuosity.
