英国埃塞克斯郡警方11月1日晚发表声明说，警方目前认为上月发生的货车惨案39名遇难者均为越南人。



全面负责此案遇难者身份调查工作的警官蒂姆·史密斯在声明中说：“目前我们相信遇难者是越南公民，警方正与越南政府保持联系。我们与越南和英国的一些家庭进行了直接接触，我们相信已经确定了部分遇难者家庭。”


At this time, we believe the victims are Vietnamese nationals, and we are in contact with the Vietnamese Government. We are in direct contact with a number of families in Vietnam and the UK, and we believe we have identified families for some of the victims whose journey ended in tragedy on our shores.


警方说，证据收集工作仍在进行中，目前尚无法宣布遇难者的具体身份，警方将继续与越南政府和其他国家合作，并呼吁知情者帮助提供识别遇难者具体身份的线索。


This evidence is being gathered across a number of jurisdictions worldwide. As a result, we cannot at this time announce the identity of any of the victims. 

We will continue to co-operate closely with the Vietnamese Government, and others, to identify the victims and offer our support to all those affected by this tragedy.


英国警方10月23日在英格兰东南部埃塞克斯郡一工业园区内的一辆集装箱货车里发现39具遗体。警方说，这辆货车在保加利亚注册，19日经由威尔士海港城市霍利黑德入境英国，集装箱则来自比利时。


越南公安部部长苏林10月30日说，越南公安部已准备好派出工作组前往英国，与英国警方协作核实货车惨案遇难者身份。
