About Youth4AM

Youth4AM is a 5 Year Leadership Development program with a mission to foster future Chinese American leaders provided by the New York Residents Alliance (NYRA), a federally registered 501(3c) nonprofit organization.  
It not only teaches forward-looking soft & hard skillsto prepare high school students for college and careers but also advocates for community service so students can uphold integrity and benefit our community for future generations to come.  It also aspires the Youth to promote their dual identities to voice their opinions in American democracy and display their pride by promoting the excellent Chinese values of diligence, progress, and familial harmony.

Training Method:

1. Apply project management training through managing a real SHSAT prep business including 5 projects and 5 departments involving 150-200 students and TAs.

Cost:  FREE
Other leadership programs usually last only a few weeks, cost thousands of dollars, and do not provide the opportunity to manage a real business.  Thanks to the volunteers of the New York Residents Alliance (NYRA), Youth4AM is completely FREE.

Eligibility

1. College students and incoming 9th to 12th graders in specialized high schools, Hunter college and Hunter College High School, or other top high schools.  
2. Minimum GPA of 92
3. Comfortable with teaching SHSAT ELA and math material and working under professional teachers with more than 20 years of SHSAT teaching experience
4. Dedicate time to attend all lessons and project team meetings
5. Responsible, self-disciplined, good communicator, able to cooperate well with others

Location:Online via Zoom, Cameras must be turned on

Schedule:

May 28, 2022, to June 25, 2022
Saturdays, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
July 5, 2022, to August 5, 2022:
Mondays through Fridays, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

TA Information Seminar Invitation

Youth4AM will be hosting an online zoom seminar to introduce our program to prospective TAs with a focus on how high schoolers can apply to become a teacher's assistant, the skills TAs will learn while participating in our program, what tasks TAs will be responsible for, and what you will be getting out of your experience. We will also be answering any questions applicants may have about our program. 
The seminar will cover relevant details including information on our 5-year development program, the responsibilities of TAs and upper management, our mission and devotion to enhancing public speaking skills, and what Youth4AM is doing to better prepare high schoolers for college. Department directors and senior members of our program will be attending to introduce what they do within their respective departments, share their experiences volunteering with Youth4AM, and answer any questions you may have about the program. Through these presentations and testimonials, we hope to encourage high schoolers to begin their journey in community service and apply to join the Youth4AM team.
