1. Project Coordinator (Office of Food Justice)
Location: Boston, MA
Overview
Under the guidance of the Program Manager and the support of the Community Engagement and Communications Director, this position works to improve equitable access to nutritious food with respect to affordability, physical accessibility, educational awareness, and cultural appropriateness.
The Project Coordinator will provide training, communications, and support the Program Manager with outreach materials and outreach plan development. They will support the programs and work plans, focusing primarily on the expansion and sustainability of programs and conduct outreach to the community to increase awareness.
Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job)
- Recruits and implements the Boston Double Up Food Bucks program. Ensures participating stores have the necessary equipment to effectively operate the program. Build relationships with community organizations. Works with stakeholders to identify new areas to increase program participation.
- Provides training and technical assistance to participating stores. Collects feedback and implements suggestions to improve the program. Supervises stores for compliance and identifies areas of improvement.
- Outreach and Communication. Distributes materials to targeted audiences. Is the main contact person for participating stores to ensure effective program administration. Designs and distributes Boston Double Up Food Bucks materials to organizations serving SNAP recipients. Promotes Double Up Food Bucks to communities in Boston.
- Provides administrative support to local farmers and Double Up Food Bucks participating stores. Manages orders, distribution, and procurement between farmers and stores.
- Serves as the main contact for monthly data collection and reimbursement requests from participating stores. Creates and ensures invoices are submitted for reimbursements. Provides assistance and troubleshooting for data collection methods.
- Provides technical assistance to individuals/organizations trying to start or expand a Farmers Market. Builds and maintains good relationships with market managers, vendors, and community members.
- Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Professional and/or academic background in food systems, food policy, nutrition, public health, education, public policy, public service, community organizing, or another related field.
- Experience in implementing, executing, and monitoring programs.
- Able to conduct training that includes technical information. Able to tailor training and outreach messages to different audiences from store management to food-insecure community members.
- Monitor and manage the performance of a program.
- Knowledgeable with budgeting and reporting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.
- Spanish fluency is strongly preferred.
- Proficient with Google Suite, social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter.
- Experience/willingness to learn website editing.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
