课间只有三分钟休息、唯一的选择就是成为第一、实行最严厉的中国式教育......这样就能成为真正的天才吗？
最近，英国一个少年智力竞赛评选节目中，上知天文下知地理的葛军（音译）名列前茅，其惊人表现震撼了观众，但却仍未能得到妈妈满意的笑容，家长超级严格要求的言论更是在网上掀起波澜。
这是英国第四频道智力竞赛节目“最聪明的孩子”评选活动，来自伯明翰的Maths wizz小天才葛军在四分之一决赛中表现得智慧惊人。
而在今年晋级的11位小选手中，让观众印象最深的，是一名来自伯明翰Maths wizz 11岁的华裔少年葛军（Gar Jun 音译）。
葛军一路过关斩将，杀入了四分之一决赛。但这时题目越来越难，有很多专业问题和生僻知识，连很多高学历的成年人都解答不了，葛军也被难倒了......
虽然题目没有全部答对，但葛军现在的得分已经在排行榜名列前茅，非常厉害了。观众也被葛军小小年纪具备的知识储备震到了。不过，更让大家震惊的，还是他爸妈的反应：就在这场比赛结束后，节目组采访了葛军的父母，这对华裔父母对自己孩子的表现非常不满意。
孩子的爸爸对葛军说，你唯一的未来就是赢得比赛！葛军的妈妈更是说出，葛军现在取得的成绩让她非常失望。
父母为什么对葛军这么严格？
其实，很多中国孩子都经历过葛军式的成长教育：葛军出生在中国，三岁随父母到了英国伯明翰，父亲Tony和母亲 Faye经营中餐厅。
父母从小就鼓励他“自学成才”。葛军刚到英国时还不会说英语，结果三个月后，英语已经很流利了。
他三岁会读写，四岁就掌握了乘法表。八岁的时候，他的钢琴和小提琴均通过了五级水平考试。
葛军学习非常刻苦，其他孩子沉迷于电脑游戏和足球的时候，他在解方程式，或者钻研DNA。转眼间，葛军成了班级里的“超级学生”，课堂表现很出色，老师经常用他当作榜样来教育同学们，就是传说中“别人家的孩子”。
小小年纪的他还曾被邀请到伯明翰大学的生物科学系，和教授一起做实验。教授对葛军所掌握的细胞与DNA知识感到非常惊讶。
而葛军的成长确实和父母的教育脱离不开关系。
母亲Faye将儿子的教育视为她的全部，对孩子管教非常严格：坚持让孩子每分钟都用在学习上，课间只给三分钟的休息。
在母亲Faye的眼里，“葛军是个很聪明的孩子，是个天才，每个孩子都有潜力，我认为我们必须施加一些压力，让他们的潜力能够被最大化拉伸，如果孩子有某种天赋，父母就要发挥作用，让这种天赋发挥出来。”
但是，这种中国式虎妈虎爸教育，再次引发外网争论：
“葛军妈妈的期望过高。这个小伙子已经表现得很好了，而且现在他已经在排行榜上排到前面，为他庆祝就好！“
“孩子应该被容许犯错误，这是成长的一部分。“
“看来葛军明天的三分钟课间放松时间也要泡汤了“
有网友炮轰节目组，称他们不该允许父母这么逼迫孩子...
有网友觉得葛军这样的孩子会没有童年：“这些孩子在学习的时候没有学会社交技巧。他们可能会变得孤立和孤僻，因为他们从来没有一个真正的童年，在童年里他们能学会做人！“？
还有人担心如此大的压力是否会影响到葛军的心理健康，并借用韩国教育的例子，证明社会高度驱动会导致高自杀率和高抑郁率。
有网友看完电视节目后写了一则笑话：
背景：葛军的父母开了一家中餐馆。
提问：“16+23+17是什么?”
葛军回答:“这是鸡蛋配薯条和面条。”
没想到母亲在评论中搞笑地回复：
“哈哈！如果你来我们的餐厅吃饭，我建议你吃鸡蛋配米饭，而不是薯条。葛军会为你提供饮料、为你播放现场音乐，并出示账单，以确保账单是正确的。只要记住一件事，请给他小费。”
网友发了大笑的表情～
无独有偶。比赛中，另一位伯明翰男孩Michael在第一轮中仅得到较低的6分，结果他的妈妈Jo类似的表现也引起了观众的反感：
她承认自己对孩子很失望，但是“完全有信心他能进入半决赛”。
“天才”，一个多么大的词汇，成为天才几乎成为了千千万万家长教育孩子的目标。
但是，天才孩童真正需要的，或许不是过大的压力，而是鼓励、健康的心灵成长以及更好的价值观教育。
“中国式教育”有自己的特色和优势，但是一些那些过时的、过于严厉的教育方法，还是要酌情运用到小孩身上。

Gar Jun Ho – a 12-year-old whose staggering intellect stunned viewers glued to Channel 4’s Child Genius competition – is quite simply one of Britain’s brightest kids.
While other children are addicted to computer games and football, Gar Jun likes nothing better than solving a meaty equation or delving into his favourite subject – DNA.
The pupil at Edgbaston’s King Edward Camp Hill Boys School reached the final of a week-long tournament that initially attracted 100 child prodigies.
On Monday, 19 junior boffins started the TV grilling, which was aired every night and included subjects such as science, memory and spelling with a twist: the words were from Olde English.
Gar Jun, who came top in Tuesday’s maths round, made it to the last five, and we will find out tonight if he is crowned overall Child Genius.
Gar Jun’s success in Child Genius is no surprise to those who know him...
After spending two of the first three years of his life in China, Gar Jun returned to his native Birmingham unable to speak English. He was fluent in three months;
He had mastered times tables by the age of four;
He could read and write aged three;
At age eight, Gar Jun, an accomplished pianist, passed his Grade Five music exam. The highest level is eight. He has also attained Grade Five for the violin.
The super-student is so highly regarded that his teachers sometimes use him to teach classmates. He is already studying for a GCSE in maths.
Parents Tony and Faye, who have run Edgbaston’s Ruby Restaurant for over 20 years, encourage Gar Jun and taught him themselves before he was old enough for school. Younger son Garloon, aged 10, also excels in the classroom.
Faye said: “I think Gar Jun is a very clever boy, but a genius? That is a very big word. I see a lot of clever kids - it is about how parents direct them.
“Every single child has potential. I think we have to apply some pressure. Gar Jun is a clever kid who needs to be stretched. If a child has the talent, parents need to play their part in bringing out that talent.”
The family applied for Gar Jun to appear on Child Genius. After two tests in London, he gained a slot on the show.
“He enjoyed the programme,” said Faye, “he really enjoyed it. You should see the pile of book and papers they gave him to study before the show – they actually helped MY education.”

The Best Secondary Schools

Gar Jun, who away from the classroom enjoys rugby, hopes to become a doctor in adult life.
Mum added: “He was invited to the bio-science department at Birmingham University to do some experiments with the professor, which is a lovely memory. The professor was quite surprised by his knowledge of cells and DNA.”
The boy with a massive IQ could become a surgical star at Edgbaston’s own QE Hospital.
