"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

1if it were not so, I would have told you.
If I were in your position I would marry her.
She might help if she knew the truth.
If it had not rained so hard yesterday we could have played tennis.
If he had come here yesterday, he would have seen his old friend.
2、I am going there to prepare a place for you.
(1)prepare for sth
Don't bother her. She is preparing for the final examination.
I am so busy preparing for the next examination that I can find no time to go out with you.
(2)prepare oneself/sth for sb/sth   prepare sb/oneself for sth
We must prepare a room for guests.
The doctor prepared Mother for her operation.
(3)prepare to do表示“因要……
I am preparing to undertake the task.
I am prepared to undertake the task.
