弟兄姊妹们主内平安，今天我们分享的经文来自新约提摩太后书（2Timothy2:1-7）
You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs -- he wants to please his commanding officer. Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules. The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
我儿啊，你要在基督耶稣的恩典上刚强起来。你在许多见证人面前听见我所教训的，也要交托那忠心能教导别人的人。你要和我同受苦难，好像基督耶稣的精兵。凡在军中当兵的，不将世务缠身，好叫那招他当兵的人喜悦。人若在场上比武，非按规矩，就不能得冠冕。劳力的农夫理当先得粮食。我所说的话你要思想，因为凡事主必给你聪明。

保罗以属灵的体验与人生经验勉励提摩太。劝勉提摩太要全然委身，对事奉不要因循苟且，却要靠耶稣的恩典刚强站稳，作神真理的传递者。要“刚强”的概念曾在以弗所书六章1节出现。对于敌对福音者，当要采取刚强的立场，严阵以待。但这力量来自“在基督耶稣的恩典”，就是倚靠神无条件的恩惠，而非自己的能力。
“也要交托那忠心能教导别人的人”（2节）。按这话的意思，保罗要求提摩太，忠心于他所教训他的真道，有双重的意思。一方面，要提摩太自己忠心，固守保罗所传给他的真道，不必因别人所传讲的与他不同，就摇动自己的信心；另一方面，也要教导那些忠心能教导别人的人，和他一样地遵守这些真道。他自己既然忠心遵守了，也就能这样去教导人遵守；不但教导别人遵守，也要交托那忠心能教导别人的人，让他们把这真道也传出去，让更多忠心的人一同来遵守。可见保罗很注重栽培后辈，也要提摩太留心栽培他以后兴起来的工人。也许提摩太还没想到这问题，可是保罗却已提醒他；虽然提摩太还是年轻的一代，可是他也应注意，在教会工作上培养更多像自己一样忠心的人来作主工。
第3-6节的3个例子的目的，是要勉励提摩太，面对艰难的任务仍要坚持到底。当兵的隐喻显示当专注于目标，军人遵照基本守则，不分心于世务。运动喻为遵守纪律，比武的人需依照比武规则，才可争夺冠冕。而农夫的隐喻指的是殷勤地付出劳力，必得奖赏。保罗力促思想这些事，因为经历往往带来许多亮光，正如主所赐的聪明一样（7节）。
作为基督的仆人，不应受任何东西牵制，失去作精兵的意义（不要爱世界和世界上的事。人若爱世界，爱父的心就不在他里面了。--约壹2：15）。愿意委身的人，就如在比武场上的竞技者，不单要遵守比赛的规矩，也要在赛前有长时间的严格训练。这种劳力的操练，也像农夫摆上心血耕种田地，理应获得工作的成果。这是神的工人在生命的操练和教导上的一些基本原则。
