Now, her life in this book is about letters, Bella’s birthday party and her new school. Bella, Amber’s younger sister, is desperate for her dad to come to her birthday party. She writes several letters, addressed to her dad. Instead of her dad, Amber is reading and answering them. <Hatchet> – 手斧男孩
(向上滑动启阅)
This is a simple but fun tiny book without any worthless sentence. Begins with a small hatchet, a gift from mommy, Hatchet is more than a survival story. Self-pity doesn’t work. Despair doesn’t work. Courage and hard work work.
(向上滑动启阅)--- 五年级女孩版
Brief Summary: Hatchet is the story of a boy called Brian Robeson. Brian’s plane crashes in the middle of a forest previously untouched by humans. He is left, stranded, with only his wits and a hatchet, his mother’s gift. Paulsen weaves this tale with extraordinary events that keep you on the edge of your toes

<Holes> – 别有洞天
(向上滑动启阅)
This book has a very good plot. First, the leading character’s name is a palindrome – Stanley Yelnats. Second, there are two stories included in this book, one in the past and the other in the present. It interests me when Stanley and Zero found the ark named Mary Lou, imagining her to be a pretty lady and it turned out to be a donkey. At the end, the two stories finally combined tightly together, all holes were filled, so impressive.

<A Long Walk to Water>
(向上滑动启阅)
The book goes between two storylines. One beginning in 1985, with a story about Salva Dut, an eleven-year-old boy living in the South Sudan village of Loun-Ariik. And the other beginning in 2008 with a young Southern Sudan girl named Nya. Salva is separated from his parents and siblings because there is a violent civil war going on in his country. And Nya spends her days fetching water for her family, which means always walking to and from the large pond located miles away from her family’s home. Which is exhausting for Nya, but her family depends on her, as many families in the village depend on their daughters. Also, the water from the pond is not clean, which makes people ill when they drink it.
Children born in US in the 2000 really needs to read this, they are all living wonderful lives, with toys, family, clean water, and food. Not knowing what's happening out in the real word. But Linda Sue Park, wrote A Long Walk To Water, so they can.

<Sapiens>-人类简史
(向上滑动启阅)
Note: this entire paper is written based on prior knowledge and may be inaccurate on key points
Sapiens is a history, not a analytic, kind of book. What is very interesting about it is its anecdotes and its ideas about what many of us take as mundane. For example, money, Harari treats as a system of trust between groups. If I have money and you have money, you probably got that money by owning a corporation or having a job. If you are either, you are likely very trustworthy. Another of Harari's arguments is of humans' mistreatment of animals. He spends an entire chapter analyzing the life of a farm sow, and makes the argument of the fact that even if a need is physically met, emotional needs that were previously required but now perhaps not, still must be met to improve happiness. This launches into a entire philosophical discussion, which is, if humans are happy themselves, but to be happy, must bestow suffering to others or animals, does it matter?
Many arguments on this case are based on the fact that, perhaps, animals do not have a consciousness and/or intelligence that we possess. This is sometimes based on the fact that animals cannot communicate- false. In fact, they are quite intelligent. And not only primates; pigs have been taught to play simple computer games such as Atari. This question is one of ethics. We could, if we tried, to interpret the languages of other animals. This would result in our understanding of their feelings. Or, for the sake of our simplicity of life and happiness, not attempt that.
Later in the book, Harari mentions how the current controlling regime of humanism might produce weird things. From this point, there is a small summary that ends at the (~).
Harari mentions how humanism is asking for happiness, longevity, and bliss. This can be obtained through not doing work, having fun, and not having to worry about much. This stems from an insane amount of automation, both logistically and physically. Once we have that kind of power, we can give "special powers" to our children. Hey! Pay 200$ to make your kid a bit smarter. Hey! Pay 1000$ and we'll guarantee that your kid's gonna be really good at soccer. At one point, it might even get to, Hey! Pay 20000$ and we'll make your kid perfect, fit to a template. From here, it is quite clear that at one point, superhumans (the rich, at that time) will be able to hop onto this superhuman bus. The rest of humanity will be left behind.
Now, you say, why must we adopt humanism? Assume we do not adopt humanism. Human greed pushes for power, which we all now know requires extensive physical, mathematical and scientific knowledge. This is, as Harari puts it, the "scientific trade"(I think that's what he called it). We get this, we give up meaning of life. Humanism is how we insert meaning. Me, writing this essay, is so that when I grow up, I can make the lives of my descendants better (that's my interpretation of how it works). Humanism treats human life as sacred, and thus is quest of self- and other- betterment is essential and important. If we do not adopt humanism, or do not come up with a variety soon enough, life will become mundane, boring, and pointless.
And no one wants that.
(~)
Harari's argument in the last two paragraphs was that superhumans are inevitable. These superhumans may even have a level of communication or state of mind. Like, we feel pride. Do horses feel pride? Maybe not. And, if you think about it, this superhuman-human relationship is extremely similar to that of the human-farming sow relationship. And you can figure what that means.

This is a great series about girls who are leaders. It is about a cyborg - which means someone who is part human, part machine - named Cinder who uncovers a secret about herself and ends up going up against Queen Levana, queen of the moon. It is a great dystopian, futuristic novel.

<The Book Thief>
(向上滑动启阅)
This book is about a girl named Liesel living in Germany during World War II. While many WWII books are about Jews and concentration camps, this book is different because it takes place in Germany, in a household that isn’t in the Nazi Party. The war also isn’t the main focus of the book; it is about the life of Liesel. It is also narrated by Death, which makes it interesting to read.

<Warriors Book Series>
(向上滑动启阅)
These series talk about cats in their perspective. In the series The New Prophecy, it talks about a cat called Rusty, who's name changes as the series goes on. A reason I loved these books so much was that it was amazing to know what a cat might've thought, and how there is so much action and drama in the series. Although I would not read it now, as I am older, I know that I loved the series when I was younger.

<Percy Jackson Series>
(向上滑动启阅)
This series is a series I could read over and over again; I would never get tired of it. There is so much action, mystery, and drama in the series even at the very first book. This series is in the point of view of a boy named Percy, who soon discovers that he is intertwined with the Greek Gods and more. You can feel so much emotion in the series and it is very easy to step in the characters' shoes. Despite Percy being the main character, the other side characters in the books are all fully developed. Rick Riordan is an amazing author that has written many series.
(向上滑动启阅)-五年级女孩版
Brief Summary: This series tells the tale of how Percy Jackson discovers that he is a half-blood, a child of a Greek or Roman god and a mortal. HIs adventures after detail how he becomes the “Hero of Olympus.” Rick Riordan tells the dramatic story with humor, but no one can deny the heroics of Percy Jackson.

<The Lord of the Rings>
(向上滑动启阅)
The Lord of the Rings was a compelling fantasy epic. Told on three parts, the idea of a completely new fictional world left readers always wanting more. The plot was decent, but what makes this series a masterpiece is the vivid setting and many subplots that somehow all woven together. The characters in the book were a bit cliche but there were some extremely well-developed ones. The tone of the story was alternating in light and happy to dark and thoughtful. The old English used in this book gave it a rustic and classic feel. This is a book for ages 12 and up, and is a fine read for the intelligent, geeky, devoted, and imaginative. I would highly recommend watching each subsequent film(part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy directed by Peter Jackson) after finishing each book.

Through the eyes of someone from a time close to the reader’s, Octavia Butler creates a story that her modern-day audience can comprehend better than just horrific statistics. In “Kindred”, Dana, the main character, demonstrates an important factor to the normalization of slavery in the 1800’s: The power of the environment against one’s identity. This novel brings deep insight to a topic discussed time and time again.
