There has never been a consensus regarding the purpose of education, with arguments mainly falling into two categories: contributing to society and attaining personal goals. This essay will discuss both sides of this argument, followed by my own opinion.

Education can definitely turn individuals into responsible and valuable members of

society (useful 对应) in several ways （general 表示整段的意思）. Firstly, it helps us develop sound moral and value systems （价值观）, guiding us to behave properly and keeping us from being led astray (分词＋并列). Such morality would minimise the risks of committing crimes, contributing to a stable society ( such 衔接）. For instance, no one can deny that it is the emphasis on morality that is largely responsible for the low crime rates in Japan ( 举例子,强调句） Furthermore, the knowledge obtained and the skills honed at school will be translated to expertise, providing value to society and driving economic growth ( verb ing 表示下一个动作） . This can explain why countries with better quality education like the US and the UK tend to have stronger economies ( This can explain 衔接）.

However, education can also prepare us for personal achievements ( 题目 ambitions 对应) in all facets of our life （general 表示整段的意思）. For people whose vision is to achieve phenomenal success in their career （拆分 people 具体化:没有思路想ABC的时候,把名词分类比如 Books 分成 story books, picture books, poem 都有不同的作用, films 分成 foreign/ local films, arts 分成 traditional/ foreign arts,这样就可以直接联系ABC使用）, top-notch education equips them with competitive professional knowledge and skills, giving them an edge in landing lucrative jobs. This can be seen in the decent educational backgrounds of most leaders in the world; nearly 90% of senior politicians in the US graduated from Ivy League universities （举例子）. What is more, there are also some people whose goals are to live a healthy life, which can also be achieved through education （拆分 people 具体化） . Nearly all schools have sports classes where students are encouraged to participate in physical activities （定语从句）, thereby improving their health.Some schools also teach students health related knowledge such as the nutritional value of various foods （such as 小列举）, which can inspire them to make sensible food choices.
