You May Know Him Better
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.  And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

1、I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father
(1)keep doing sth.
e.g. He kept talking until the meeting was over.
She keeps running.
He kept standing in the street .
We kept hoping that they would have chance to come to China (again) some day.
(2)keep on doing sth.
He kept on ringing me up, but I don't want to keep in touch with him any more.
The boy kept on watching the passing traffic at the gate.
She kept on raising her hand
He kept on repeating these words over and over.
2、I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you
in order that 为了;以便能;使,可以和so that比较使用。
(1)目的状语从句通常由 so that, in order that引导,so that 可引导目的状语从句及结果状语从句, in order that 只能引导目的状语从句。
We started early so that we could catch the first train.
He studies hard so that he could work better in the future.
We used the computer in order that we might save time.
A.目的状语从句里往往带有情态动词can, could, may, might等。
e.g. Please speak clearly so that they may understand you.
Jack is badly ill so that he has to rest.
I sent the letter early that morning ___she got it that afternoon.
为什么用so that而不用 in order that 呢?
3、And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church
(1)place,
We must find a place for this new picture.
He offered me a place in his company.
Is everyone in the right place?
Mary got second place in the piano competition.
(2)place,作动词,意思是放置;获名次;名列前茅;
Yes, I also learnt how to place my adverts.
He placed the money on the table.
(3)place的常用短语有in place of相当于in stead of,表示“代替”。take the place of也可指“代替”,但是“take place”表示“发生”。
Who will take the place of Mr. James?
