老外说quite good，真的在夸你？这些职场英语的潜台词必须会！

如今在职场上，特别是外企，碰到一两个老外同事太正常了。

那么，和他们交流，你可要留心了。虽然都说老外很直接，但不要忘了，他们也很擅长显得很彬彬有礼。职场上，老外们将这两种特质融合在一起，就产生一种特殊的化学反应：那就是常常话里有话，弦外有音。

比如，老外说 Quite good，你是不是欢欣鼓舞地认为人家在表扬你呢？

但是，对不起哦，他们内心一点喜欢的小火花都没有，真正的意思是A bit disappointing… 有点小失望呢……

今天就来盘点下职场中，老外常用语背后有啥话外音。下次听到了，不要再当傻白甜了。

老外的话外音｜听不懂，很尴尬

#1 Very Interesting

Very interesting 算是入门级别的了。

如果你听老外这么说，千万不要以为你的想法真让老外眼冒金星，对你刮目相看。

话外音正解--

老外说very interesting的时候，可不是真的觉得有意思，他们的内心戏大概如下图表情包，翻着白眼，一脸嫌弃。

所以，如果你听到老外说“因吹斯汀”，那一定暗藏 “呵呵” 的神韵。真实的意思是：YOU’RE BORING ME TO DEATH! 无聊透顶。

#2 With the greatest respect

“With the greatest respect” 或 “with all due respect” 一般出现在商务邮件里，看起来是个温婉体贴的词。

但如果老外真动用这句话，那么，情况可以说是相当的不妙了。比如：

With the greatest respect, could we consider some other options? I would implement only some minor changes..
恕我冒昧，我们还有其他方案吗？我想要做些小修改。

话外音正解--

你可不要以为老外此刻内心还和表面一样温和。

他们的内心早已火冒三丈，念叨的台词是 You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about！（真不知道你们在瞎逼逼啥！）

所以，上面那段邮件，他们真正想说的是：

I Don't like your idea. I think you are all idiot and I would change it competlely!
我不喜欢你么的想法。你们都是傻瓜，我要全部改掉。

#3 I'm sure it's my fault / No harm done

有时候，对于老外的客气和礼貌，我们还真得仔细辨别。

如果老外主动承担责任，忙不迭地说让你不要担心。你要小心了，老外内心是另外一幅风景。

比如：

你和老外主管一起外出拜访某客户，但发现你们漏带了重要的宣传文案，于是老外主管说了句：Don't worry. I'm sure it's my fault.

你以为他是在安慰你？

那真too young, too naive啦。

话外音正解 --

老外只是绅士感发作。他们表面维持一副彬彬有礼的态度，但内心的真实想法是：

It’s your fault and we both know it. You caused complete and utter chaos.
这是你的错，我们都心知肚明。就是你搞出的幺蛾子。

#4 That's a rather unusual story, isn't it?

如果你听到老外用 isn't it 这样的反问语句，那么你要注意了，这是老外内心diss你的表现。比如：

你： I heard that Jessie has quit the job because she doesn't get along with colleagues.
我听说Jessie离职了，好像是因为她和同事合不来。
老外：That's a rather unusual story, isn't it?
哦，还真是不常见，是吧？

话外音正解 --

老外可能已经知道Jessie离职的真正原因是被你排挤的。他只是表面上不动声色，轻描淡写地说一句：That's a rather unusual story, isn't it?

但他内心的潜台词却是：

You are a liar！I know she left because of you！
你是个骗子。我知道她是因为你离开的。

# 5 Your English is somewhat unorthodox

你去某外企去应聘某份工作，老外面试官最后淡淡地说了句：

I‘m afraid your English is somewhat unorthodox for this job.
抱歉，你的英语对于这份工作来说有点太不正统。

话外音正解 --

他们冠冕堂皇的话里暗藏的意思是：就这破英语，还想过来应聘我们工作！

此刻他们的心理，大概如酒馆的老板，一副“小二送客”的腔调。

Secretary, show this gentleman the door...
秘书，过来把他带出去吧……

#6 CC / FYI

查邮箱的时候，常常收到CC你的邮件；或者某些邮件总带上 FYI 这三个字母。

收到这么多邮件，千万不要自我感觉太良好，把自己太当回事，以为日理万机，很多事情等着你处理。

话外音正解 --

CC的意思是 carbon copy, FYI是 For your information 的缩写，两者都是差不多的功能，意思是：

这些事情都和你关系不大，你看看知道就好。

下面，再给大家看两个老外心口不一的例子。

你：How are things going?一切都还好吧？

老外：I’m in a bit of a pickle.. 我最近有点小麻烦..

老外真实想法：

I’m in a catastrophic situation with possibly fatal consequences!!

我最近遇到大麻烦了，可能会有致命后果。

老外：Chen, You must come for dinner. /Pop around anytime! 陈，随时来我家吃饭啊。

你：Ok, I will go to your house this Friday.好的，我周五就来。

老外真实想法：

It’s not an invitation, I’m just being polite.

我不是真的邀请你哦，我只是礼貌而已。
