Cambridge Carnival 剑桥嘉年华是非洲传统的一个色彩缤纷的喜庆节日。最夺人眼球的当属大型的艳服表演游行，浮夸耀眼的服饰张扬着节日的喜庆，伴随着非洲特色的节奏感音乐，艳舞整个剑桥地区。

2016年第24届剑桥嘉年华将于9月11日举行，欣赏彩装游行之余，还可以享受国际美食，以及见识和购买来自世界各地的手工艺品。更有两个大型音乐舞台表演，其中国际舞台将展示世界音乐、雷盖（Reggae）和索克（Soca）音乐；观赏舞台则用于游行服装的评选。儿童节目则有脸部彩绘、踩高跷、艺术手工艺品等。

重头戏- 彩装游行（costume parade）包括steel bands钢鼓乐队和服装竞赛。游行从下午12:30到4点，路线约1.3英里。大约在中午12:30-1点在查尔斯河River Street和Blackstone Street附近开始，然后一路沿着Mass Ave行进到Central Square，继续到Main Street，最后在Kendall Square靠近MIT处结束。

交通指南：鉴于参加人数数以千计，附近的街道被封路，停车位不易找，建议坐地铁比较方便。坐红线地铁：到Central Square站看彩装游行，到Kendall Square站看舞台表演和吃美食。
开车：当天以下路段定时封路
1）7am-10pm，从Vassar Street到Broadway的这段Main Street 封路，从MIT医院到Broadway的这段Ames Street 封路。
2）8am- 8pm，从Mass Ave（Central Square）到 Vassar Street 的这段Main Street 封路。
3）12:30-4pm，River Street 封路。
4）12:30-4pm，Mass Ave 北部封路。

Cambridge Carnival is a colorful and festive celebration rooted in African traditions. This free festival is celebrating 24 years this year and is considered a Cambridge Institution, and is the largest festival in Cambridge with thousands of attendees. The highlight of the festival is a grand costume parade accompanied by rich rhythmic musicality promoting all types of cultures. Participants can be seen as revelers masquerading through the streets in dazzling handmade costumes, dancing to the beat of the Carnival. The festival is also an opportunity to celebrate Cambridge’s diversity, enjoy international foods, and purchase multicultural crafts from around the world!

Schedule

Two music stages boast a powerful lineup of local bands and DJ’s. The International Stage will feature World Music, Reggae, and Soca. The Viewing Stage is where the costume groups are presented formally in front of a team of judges. Prior to the judging, local DJ’s will spin their best Caribbean tunes. Several steel bands and percussion groups will join the parade.

Costume Parade: 12:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.

The parade features steel bands and a costume competition. The route pans 1.3 miles and the procession kicks off between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. It will begin near the Charles River, at River Street and Blackstone Street, then it passes through Central Square along Massachusetts Avenue, continues up Main Street and ends in Kendall Square near MIT, Cambridge.

Viewing Stage: 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.

This stage is where the presentation before the judges takes place. Before and after the parade, we will have live music such as gospel jazz, and Caribbean music and guest DJ’s will be featured.

International Stage: 12 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Musical accompaniments have set the tone for worldwide carnival celebrations. On this stage, bands representing several islands and South American nations will provide the sounds of African, Caribbean, Calypso, Reggae, Haitian Roots and Compa  music. We will also have guest DJ’s.

Activities for children ages 5 to 14 years will include face painting, stilt walking, arts and crafts, and other hands-on activities. 

Directions

By Public Transportation From Boston by subway (Kendall Square comes first), take the MBTARed Line to Kendall Square (for the festival) or one further stop to the Central Square stop (for the parade). By Car Street Closings: Main Street will be closed from Vassar Street to Broadway and Ames Street from just pass the MIT Hospital to Broadway will be closed from 7am- 10pm. Main Street will be closed from Mass Avenue (Central Square) to Vassar Street from 8am- 8pm. River Street will be closed from 12:30-4pm for the parade. Massachusetts Avenue will be closed on the North side from 12:30-4pm for the parade. Parking is limited and metered. Cambridgeside Galleria (about a 10 minute walk) has paid parking, as well. Directions: To obtain directions from where you originate, see Mapquest and plug in Massachusetts Avenue and Main Street for the parade route or Main Street and Ames Street for the festival site.
