XM Marathon hit the streets on Sunday

The annual C&D Xiamen Marathon 2024 kicked off last Sunday. Roughly 30,000 runners attended the event. 
Asefa Boki Kebebe and Bekelech Gudeta Borecha who are both from Ethiopia grabbed gold medal of men and women's groups with time of 02:06:46 and 02:22:54 respectively. This year the prize for the first place male and female athletes who run into 02:08:30 and 02:25:00 respectively rose from $45,000 to $55,000.
Dong Guojian and Zhang Deshun became the fastest Chinese male and female runners, finishing the race with time of 02:10:38 and 02:26:53 respectively and each winning a prize of 55,000 yuan. Dong received an extra prize of 30,000 yuan for setting a new record of Chinese participants in Xiamen Marathon.
This year a total of 2,347 participants completed the full race within three hours, compared with 816 runners in 2023. In the first edition of Xiamen Marathon in 2003, 585 runners finished the full race in six hours.
XM launches 63 major projects with 115B yuan of total investment

Xiamen kicked off 2024 by collectively launching 63 major projects with a total investment of 115.2 billion yuan. The projects span sectors such as industry, infrastructure and social ventures. The totals include 25 industrial projects (53 billion yuan of investment), 19 infrastructure projects (50.3 billion yuan) and 19 social projects (11.9 billion yuan).
Douyin Group tops out upcoming Xiamen office building

Representatives of the Douyin Group's Xiamen Vector Space Technology Company announced recently that work topped out on its upcoming office building complex. The key municipal and provincial project is slated to open in 2025. The project covers a total construction area of about 80,000 square meters and will include office buildings and hotels.
Xiamen and Penang announce table tennis agreement

The Xiamen Table Tennis Association and the Penang Table Tennis Association of Malaysia recently signed a Friendly Cooperation Agreement, agreeing to become sister associations. The groups announced plans for regular visits, exchanges and table tennis training sessions. Representatives said that the initiative will promote cooperation and friendship between the two cities and will foster the development of table tennis.
Upgraded pumping station doubles water supply for island of Xiamen

Upgrades wrapped up recently on the island of Xiamen's largest raw water pumping station. The Puzai Pumping Station doubled its water supply capacity to 600,000 tons per day. The station primarily supplies raw water to the Gaodian and Lianban water plants each of which have a supply capacity of 300,000 tons per day. City officials said that the upgraded pumping station significantly enhances the security of the island's water supply.
China Marathon Expo Opens in Xiamen

The fifth China Marathon Expo and the Fujian Province Road Running Industry Expo kicked off last weekend. After a three-year hiatus, the China Marathon Expo resumed at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center.
Marathon officials said that the event, originally launched in 2017, is the largest, most influential and most authoritative of its kind in the field of Chinese long-distance running. Xiamen will host the fifth, sixth and seventh expos over the next three years.
Cross-Strait Youth Cross-Border Art Incubation Base debuts

The Banlam Grand Theater recently hosted an unveiling ceremony for the Cross-Strait Youth Cross-Border Art Incubation Base. Representatives said that the Banlam Grand Theater and the Quanta  Arts Foundation will utilize the platform to engage in cultural and artistic exchanges and collaborations for youth from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Officials added that the initiative is designed to support and encourage outstanding literary and artistic works, to discover and nurture artistic talents and to enable promising young artists to achieve sustainable development.
E-commerce exports surge from Xiamen Port

Xiamen Port authorities announced last week that its Dongdu Cross-Border E-commerce Hub exceeded its annual target for exported goods by more than 300 percent. Port authorities said that linking together hub, dock and route services significantly enhanced the market service capacity of Xiamen Port's Taiwan Strait shipping channel.
XM announces results of 2023 garbage sorting efforts

City officials last week reported significant progress in the city's garbage sorting and collection efforts. Xiamen's rate of kitchen waste collection increased by 16.1 percent even as the total volume of kitchen waste decreased by 2.69 percent. The combined volume of all categories of waste dropped by 6.53 percent. The recycling rate of garbage exceeded 50 percent while the rate of resource utilization hit 87 percent.
By the end of 2023, Xiamen had more than 4,400 garbage disposal points and over 2,000 garbage houses. The city operated nearly 1,000 direct transportation routes for waste collection and implemented staggered transportation for nearly 10,000 interchange stations.
Xiamen adds pair of provincial-level model secondary schools

Fujian education officials announced recently the selection of 13 secondary schools as provincial model secondary schools. The additions include a pair of Xiamen schools -- Tongan First Middle School and Xiamen Second Middle School. Fujian's inaugural batch of 30 model secondary schools included five in Xiamen -- Xiamen First Middle School, Xiamen Shuangshi Middle School, Xiamen Jimei Middle School, Xiamen Sixth Middle School and Xiamen Foreign Language School.

Xiamen last December became one of China's first pilot cities for national infant and toddler care services, City education officials have established junior and intermediate professional titles for childcare service providers. Applicants for the certification program must meet educational, professional skills and performance benchmarks.
Zhongshan Park debuts new monthly talent show

Zhongshan Park's first talent show debuted on January 3. The event featured performances by Xinjiang dancers, a clarinet ensemble and a shuttlecock team. Local residents can register to participate in the monthly event through the 思明城市义工WeChat account. The Zhongshan Park Management Office and the Siming District Urban Volunteer Association are jointly organizing the talent show.
