In 2013, Libby Yu’s family’s life was thrown into chaos when husband and father, Clifford (Cliff) So, was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
在2013年，当 Libby Yu 的丈夫、孩子们的父亲 Clifford (Cliff) So被诊断出患有睾丸癌时，这个家庭的生活陷入了混乱。
“His diagnosis came while our children were aged 2, 4 and 6,” remembers wife, Libby Yu. “I felt grief, anxiety, and a sense of losing control over any plans we held for our lives. At each stage of his cancer journey, we received and had to react to devastating news that was overwhelming as a young wife and mother.”
“他的诊断出来时，我们的孩子们才只有2岁、4岁和6岁，”遗孀 Libby回忆道。“当时我既悲伤又焦虑，而我们对生活的种种规划，亦随之而崩塌。他癌症治疗的每个阶段我们都要收到各种可怕的消息，这对一个年轻的妻子和母亲来说是不能承受之重。”
Cliff has been gone five years now but he lives on in a lot more than just family photos. Like Libby, he was a musician. “He loved to sing and strum on his guitar,” says Libby. “And now my children fill our home with music through song and various acoustic and electric guitars.”
如今Cliff去世已五载，然而他的生命远不止在照片上延续。当年他和 Libby一样，也是个音乐家。“他弹吉他，也唱歌，”Libby说。“而今孩子们依然唱歌、弹木吉他、弹电吉他，我们的家依然流淌着音乐。”
“However difficult it was, cancer taught us precious life lessons. It taught us to embrace each present day as a gift. It gave us the ability to choose to live with hope, and exercise our faith in God,” says Libby.
“艰难的日子不堪回首，但癌症给了我们人生宝贵的一课，教我们珍惜当下每一天，教我们用希望的火炬照亮人生的旅途，从而践行我们对上帝的信仰，” Libby说道。
Throughout Cliff’s treatment with BC Cancer, and following his passing, Libby and the family remained thankful for the extra time they had with Cliff.
不论是Cliff在卑诗癌症中心接受治疗的过程中，还是他离世之后，对于能够与之共度那额外的时光，Libby一家始终感恩不已。
“Our family will always have deep gratitude in our hearts to the doctors and nurses at BC Cancer for caring for him, not only as a patient, but as a living man. They provided us with four bonus years to cherish together as a family. “

“It also lent us insight into BC Cancer’s interwoven teamwork of mind, hand and heart that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for each patient. And the continued efforts of doctors, specialists, researchers and nurses who work tirelessly to make a difference. It’s not just medicine and the latest technology that matters in the end, but the human touch and compassion they showed us.”

Determined to carry on in Cliff’s attitude of optimism and hope, Libby poured her heart into her music and expressed her gratitude through a Recital for Hope, which raised more than $16,000 for testicular cancer research in 2018. She continues to perform and share her family’s inspiring story of hope and healing to support the work of BC Cancer —including performing at three events across the province in 2022 to celebrate the launch of Beyond Belief, BC Cancer Foundation’s $500 million fundraising campaign to transform cancer research and care in B.C.
既已决心继承Cliff乐观面对和心怀希望的人生态度，Libby全身心地投入到音乐中，举办了“希望之声”慈善独奏音乐会以表感恩之情，在2018年为睾丸癌研究筹募了超过16,000加元的善款，并继续在各种筹款活动中演奏，同时与大众分享她的家庭关于希望和治愈的鼓舞人心的故事，以支持卑诗癌症中心的工作。其中包括在2022年全省举办的三场盛事中的演奏，以庆祝卑诗省癌症基金会5亿加元的筹款活动“超越众望 (Beyond Belief) 的启动，帮助提升与改善卑诗省的癌症研究和治疗工作。
