本次展览中来自《Canon》和《Moiré》系列的作品都采用了同一套创作方法和系统，体现了与霍维兹首个系列明显的联系。在大约1984年的时候，霍维兹意识到她全部的作品都由八个角度的线条组成，随后她从这八个角度的线条探索出不同的二元组合，最终构成《Moiré》系列。

这也促使艺术家在克制严谨的创作手法，和图案密集且富有活力的画面之间取得平衡，成果包括创作于1985年的《Canon Twelve, Moiré Number 2》和《Moiré Matrix》。与《Sonakinatography》类似，这些作品中八个不同角度的起点以不同的颜色区分。交叉的线条构成规整的新图案，在画面营造出色彩缤纷的震荡。

本次展览中的《Moiré》系列也为后来创作于1990年代的《Rhythm of Line II》系列提供清晰的线索，例如1992年的《Moiré on Yellow》和《Moiré on purple with 1 & 6》体现了艺术家借助线条和方形制造相交的角度，以此创建新的图案。

Artes Mundi 国际当代艺术奖的总监 Nigel Prince 为此次展览撰写了一篇文章，他总结道：“霍维兹创作生涯中不同阶段的实践，都以作品系列之间的交织联系和相互参照为特点。因此，霍维兹的创作与简单的刻板重复不同，后者的作品采用的系统可能按照预期、遵循一种墨守成规和乏味统一的线性发展规律。而霍维兹毕生致力创作视觉上引人注目、周密严谨的系统化作品，她的多个具有连续和递进关系的系列共同表明，通过有条不紊和逻辑化的创作模式，艺术家在本应是束缚和多重感官影响下，揭示了一种无拘无束的自由。”

关于夏纳·霍维兹

夏纳·霍维兹 (1932-2013) 出生于美国洛杉矶，生前生活和工作于此。1950年代初期，霍维兹在加州艺术中心设计学院学习平面设计；1960年代，她在加州州立大学北岭分校继续深造艺术。1972年，她毕业于美国瓦伦西亚的加州艺术学院并获艺术学士学位。如今，霍维兹与玛丽·阔思 (Mary Corse)、约翰·麦克拉肯 (John McCracken) 等人一起被奉为观念艺术和西岸极简主义的代表人物。她是一位大器晚成的艺术家，她的作品前后于2013年和2014年在惠特尼双年展和威尼斯双年展中展出。
