Xiamen Port adds new BRI shipping route

Xiamen Port officials recently announced a new shipping route to its lineup of routes servicing Belt and Road Initiative countries. The new route includes stops at Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Jakarta and Surabaya in Indonesia as well as Shekou before running directly between Xiamen and Busan in the Republic of Korea. The TS Mundra last week became the first cargo ship to run the route.
Three local firms earn Intelligent Manufacturing Demonstration Factory title

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently announced its annual list of companies to receive its Intelligent Manufacturing Demonstration Factory designation. A total of ten Fujian enterprises made the list, including three Xiamen firms, namely ABB Xiamen Switch Gear, Anjoy Food and AU Optronics.
World Ocean Week kicks off in Xiamen

The annual World Ocean Week in Xiamen kicked off last week. Featuring more than 40 activities, the seven-day event consisted of an ocean-themed forum, a professional maritime exhibition and a marine cultural carnival.
This year's World Ocean Week featured an increased degree of internationalization, specialization and organization. Officials said the event served as an important exchange platform to boost the development of the domestic and international marine economy. Participants focused on partnership dialogues, innovation development, industry integration and the interaction between humans and the oceans.
Xiamen's HRSS bureau offers 1.3M yuan in funding to returning overseas talents

Representatives of Xiamen's Human Resources and Social Security bureau recently announced the distribution of 1.3 million yuan in funding to local residents who returned from studying and working internationally. The fund's recipients included three returning students and a pair of entrepreneurial projects.
30-year renovation concludes for Jinming temple

Officials from Jinmeng temple in Siming announced last week that a comprehensive renovation of the temple wrapped up after 30 years of work. The temple is located just off the Island Ring Boulevard. The temple founded during Guangxu years of the Qing dynasty.
The temple has been rebuilt extensively over its 150-year lifespan. The current round of renovations began in 1992 under the auspices of Master Pu Duan, formerly of the Minnan Buddhist College.
Xiamen hosts World Hairdressing Congress

The World Hairdressing Congress kicked off in Xiamen last week. The two-day event included guests from more than 60 countries including France, Japan, Malaysia, Spain and the U.K. The event included more than a dozen fashion shows and four industry forums and key speeches.
FZ-XM high-speed railway tickets now available for purchase

The China Railway Nanchang Group officially launched last week the purchase window for tickets on the Fuzhou-Xiamen high-speed railway. Travelers can buy regular tickets up to 30 days in advance of travel.
Zhongshan Road set to earn Demonstration Pedestrian Street designation

The Ministry of Commerce recently announced that Xiamen's Zhongshan road pedestrian street is included on a list of eight streets proposed for inclusion in China's third set of National Demonstration Pedestrian Streets. Fuzhou's Three Lanes and Seven Alleys pedestrian street is also slated for inclusion.
Built in 1925, Xiamen's Zhongshan road was the first commercial street in China to directly connect to the sea. The road is located opposite Gulangyu, a world cultural heritage site.
Two XM residents each donated 100M+ yuan last year

A recent Hurun Philanthropists List included 34 Chinese citizens who donated at least 100 million yuan to charitable causes, nearly double the number of such philanthropists ten years ago. The list included Yuanchang Group's Hou Changcai and Anta's Lai Shixian.
Hou Changcai ranked 15th for donations of 190 million yuan via the Yuanchang Group in the education sector. Lai Shixian ranked 22nd with personal donations of 110 million in the education sector.
The list included donations in cash and equity as well as legally binding donations made between September 2022 and last August. Donations of more than 100 million yuan in September and October were also included in the list.
New processes streamline authentication of official Chinese documents

Chinese authorities earlier this month implemented new rules and regulations that streamline how public documents issued by China are processed for use in other countries. The new rules are designed to make it easier for individuals and companies who need to present items such as Chinese health certificates, driver's licenses and other documents for use internationally.
The processing time for the authentication of such documents is expected to drop from about 20 working days to a few working days. Costs have also been lowered, which may result in savings of more than 300 million yuan annually in certification fees for Chinese and foreign individuals and enterprises.
Xiamen opens migration corridors for the chestnut-headed bee-eater

Xiamen's Natural Resources and Planning Bureau recently announced a pair of wildlife corridors for migratory birds. The corridors prohibit activities that could hinder breeding and reproduction.
The migration corridors cover the Wuyuan Bay Chestnut-headed Bee-eater Nature Reserve and the Wuyuan Bay Wetland Park. The reserve is a breeding ground for bee-eaters while the wetlands are a foraging area for the delicate bee-eater, which had a reddish head and a yellow throat.
The chestnut-headed bee-eater is a second-class nationally protected bird in China. It migrates to Xiamen to nest and breed in April, returning to southeast Asia around September.
Xiamen ranked sixth on Tsinghua's urban health index

Xiamen ranked sixth on an index of urban health released recently by researchers at the Vanke School of Public Health (a part of the Institute for China Sustainable Urbanization) and the Institute for Healthy China (a part of Tsinghua University).
Other top performers included Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Shenzhen. The index ranked cities based on factors such as environmental health, health public services and disease prevention and control.
Xiamen Port deploys China's emergency tugboat

Xiamen Port officials last week announced the official licensure of Xiamen Port Tugboat 30, China's first green emergency tugboat. It came as part of the official announcement of the city's  Green Xiamen Bay joint initiative with the Xiamen Port.
The DC grid oil-electric hybrid tugboat is officially a key demonstration project under the Electric Fujian initiative. The boat features zero carbon emissions, no pollution and low-noise operations. Each tugboat in its class can save more than 200 tons of fuel and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 600 tons per year.
