An awful, horrible story out of Illinois today in La Grange, just outside Wadiya, I'll fire me.
A six year old Palestinian Ameri who was senselessly stabbed to d 26 times was laid to rest tonigh Police say he and his mother were attacked on Saturday by their landlord, alle because they were Muslim.
CNN's Whitney Wild has more on this horrific a that's now being investigated as a federal hate crime.
Oh, lord.
What about six year old Wadiya? I'll film a Palestinian-American laid to rest today.
He's a very conquered He likes to jump up and down when he was dead.
He was less worse to his mom.
Mom I'm fine.
You know what? He is fine.
He's in a better place.
The boy died after he and his mother, Hanan S were allegedly stabbed Saturday in the room.
They rented from 71 year old Jos just outside Chicago.
Their landlord and an act of hat shouted death threats and at least violence The landlord appearing in court while the boy's mother remains hospitalized.
Recovering from more than a doze wounds, Zuba allegedly entered t he rented to Shahin and her son Saturday morning, stabbing the six year old 26 tim The female is claiming that the landlord has the child in another room and apparently is either stabbing or has damage to the child.
Authorities have now opened a federal hate crimes investigat The local sheriff's saying in a statement, both victims in this brutal atta were targeted by the suspect due to them being Muslim and the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict involving Hamas and the Israelis.
Outrage erupting over the brutal illustrating why federal officials are worried about growing threat He paid the price for the atmosphere of hate.
Zuba now facing murder, attempte and hate crime charges.
All right.
They have me Jake.
That mother is still in the hosp and illustrating just how gut wrenching this is.
Again, she's still in the hospital and that meant she could not be at the funeral, Jake.
She could not say goodbye to her little boy. Back to you.
So awful point.
Meanwhile, thank you so much.
I want to bring in Rula Jebreal.
She's a visiting professor at the University of Miami, a journalist, a foreign policy a and an Israeli-Palestinian who's who has loved ones both in Israel and in East Jerus Right now, Rula, thanks so much.
How important do you think it is for people in the media, for our political leaders, religious leaders, to make this incredibly important distinction between Hamas and not only the Palestinian peo but Arabs and Muslims and all other people who somehow might unfairly and wrong be lumped in with Hamas? I think it's crucial.
It's it's it's paramount.
I mean, as we see the rise of hate crimes in Ameri as we see that threats and Michi and Brooklyn restaurants are receiving death threats, restaurants of of Syrians, Palestinians, Muslims, it doesn' But it starts with a dehumanization, Jake.
It starts with the language of officials both in Israel and, in the United States, where they blurring the distinction that erase the distinction between civilians and militants.
And they carry this narrative th Palestinians are animals, are Na that the only way somehow the so for this conflict to wipe them out, to exterminate I mean, I've been listening to many in t And if we ever needed Palestinia to actually explain how did we g and how we where we go from here, it's now if we ever needed rational t I understand the fear that emotions I understand that what you know and I have empathy and compassio for the civilians who died after that attack in the same time we need because of those emotion because we've been there before after nine 11.
We've seen what happened when we overreact.
We've seen want to happen when we dehumanize and criminali an entire group of people.
It actually reminds me of when after nine 11 in the you know, in the preparation for the work war on Iraq, a lot of Americans thought that the Iraqis were responsible for nine 11. Ye And that led to the invasion and led to building up of the lie about WMD.
And there is you know there's a threat of ext we need to go there and with that and now they regret these polici And I remember also officials in the Bush administration comin and saying our policies are creating more e and more terrorists.
But also I remember Barack Obama saying, you know, I was the direct outgrowth of al Q and it's related to our invasion and occupation of Iraq.
I mean, I remember these things and it seemed we didn't learn en And I think Palestinians are also invited to defend their and defend their existence over instead of explaining and they've been telling us and warning us that this is going to happen without a political solution.
They've been telling us, Palestinian and Israeli Palestinians telling us that there's no military solutio And if there's a confirmation of the failure of the military a is five wars in Gaza, right.
Then endless crimes and endless, no subjugation to the Palestinians without a political solution on the horizon.
This war will not stop in Israel It will not.
And what happened in Gaza in tho it will not keep Israel safe, but will come back to America.
And it is astonishing that that same people who waged a war on America's dem are the same people who are toda telling us wiped out, wipe out G The same people who endorse what Putin did in Chechnya, basi you know, flattened Grozny or what Assad did in Aleppo.
Nobody is safe with this policy.
And Israelis and Palestinians and nor America and I think and one of the things you're say there are so important, the idea that when this war operation, whatever people want to call it, when it's over, the idea that th or the Arab world or whomever can just say, okay, now we're just going to go back to the way we were and the Palestinians in the West Bank and the Palestinians in Gaza are just going to be left to their own devices as they wer And that is not that's not a sol No, that's actually why we are here in the first place.
And I know that it's hard in this moment of high emotions to to appeal to other people, hu But if we ever need an internati for the protection of the people and to prevent an ethnic cleansing of Palestine if it's now if we ever need to pressure governments to speak up to the Israelis and tell them that, you know, you are the strongest army in the Middle East, you are the 11 strongest army in the world.
You have atomic bombs.
This is yes, it's horrific, but it's not an existential thre and not Palestinians are not Naz We need to have our media, our colleagues, our friends to t you know, pressure also and rebuke and cou the narrative of, you know, the military, the army who are telling us that, no, they're there is no civilians, there are civilians, there are millions of people who live in Gaza.
They're a regular human being.
And today we're here.
Are there calls from hospitals, from on th who are telling us that they fear to be exterminate by fear that and with and not only us who are hearing them, the whole region, the whole world are listening to And I think in this moment that we shouldn't wait for a military, you know, to conclude whatever they are doing.
And we know what they're doing because in their deeds and words are telling us what they're doing.
But we need now to pressure as international community Israelis to act lawfully, to act rationally more than ever We need that now don't wait, because if we wait, it can be to Rula, before you go, I know you have relatives in East Jerus in Israel. And I'm wondering how it is for Palestinian Israelis right n in this in incredibly awful peri after that incredibly awful October 7th attack and now this How are your relatives doing? Thank you for asking, Jake.
You know, some of my relatives work in hos They are taking care of these in who were attacked in October while listening to, you know, ba other Israelis calling to exterm Palestinians, to wipe them out.
Many of them change the way they dress because they are they fear retal Many of my of these relatives who talk to people in Gaza, in hospitals, working in Gaza, and they hear the voices and voice messages telling, you know, basically telling them we are waiting to be slaughtered we know that the world doesn't c about us.
We are waiting to be slaughtered And also, you know, while all this happens, the attacks in the West Bank never ceased.
55 Palestinians in the West Bank where Hamas is not there being killed last w in seven days, they've been kill the attacks of the settlers.
And while the government is you the military are doing what they doing in Gaza in the same time, they are building settlement and continue to confiscate land.
People in Jerusalem are terrifie because ministers in Israel and politicians, including the moderate president are telling them there's no civi And they're repeating the narrat Palestinians are Nazis and injecting this narrative to basically say, we, you all are enemy and we will go after you sooner And you have, you know, minister like Ben-gvir and Smotrich.
And that's why they're appealing to the international community to pressure this government, that is to stop any kind of reta that can, you know, lead to a regional wide conflict, but also lead to a position where Israeli themselves, they ask themselves what American did after the war on terror? Are we producing more extremist are we plunging our self in a forever war? Those lessons from the global war on terror, the lessons from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
We need to be need to be remembe Rula Jebreal, always, always great to have you on.
Thank you so much. Thank you, Ja

伊利诺伊州美籍巴勒斯坦男孩遇害案

AMNA NAWAZ: The brutal murder of a 6-year-old Palestinian  American boy named Wadea Al-Fayoume on Saturday has left a community grieving  and fearful about growing anti-Islamic sentiment during the Israel-Hamas war.
His father spoke shortly before his son's funeral today.
ODAY AL-FAYOUME, Father of Wadea Al-Fayoume (through translator): I am here because  I'm the kid's father, not because I'm political or religious or anything. I am  the father of a child whose rights were violated. I hope this wakes us all up.
AMNA NAWAZ: I'm joined by Edward Ahmed Mitchell. He's a civil rights attorney  and national deputy executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
Edward, welcome.
So, Wadea buried today. He just turned 6 years old a few weeks  ago. Tell us about this boy. Tell us about his family. What should we know?  EDWARD AHMED MITCHELL, Council on American-Islamic Relations: This young boy  like any other young boy. He loved sports. He loved drawing. He loved his family.
He was a young man with a promising future that was stolen from him in an act of anti-Palestinian  and anti-Muslim hate. I wish I could say that our organization was surprised by this,  but we're not. We have seen a week of horrific anti-Muslim, anti-Palestinian  rhetoric, and it has culminated in the loss of this young boy's life.
AMNA NAWAZ: Tell me about his community. They live about 40 miles outside of Chicago in Plainfield.
What are you hearing from folks there?  EDWARD AHMED MITCHELL: I think everyone is shocked and stunned.
Obviously, they have been horrified to see the violence happening overseas impacting Israelis  and Palestinians, and others, but for it to come home and impact them directly was not something  they expected. So I think everyone's rallying around the family, trying to support them,  and also sending a message that this is the danger of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian hysteria.
And we cannot let this happen again. No one else should have  to go through what this young boy's family is going through right now.
AMNA NAWAZ: Because it's been reported, Edward, this little boy was stabbed 26 times,  his mother 12 times. She survived. We should say she's in hospital recovering. The sheriff's  office there said that the man charged was their landlord, a 71-year-old man named Joseph Czuba,  and targeted them because they are Muslim.
The Justice Department says it's now opening a federal  hate crimes investigation. What's your reaction to that? Is that welcome news?  EDWARD AHMED MITCHELL: The FBI is doing the right thing.
This absolutely does appear to be a hate crime. The landlord, interestingly enough,  was previously friendly to the family, even helped build a tree house for the boy. But then, over the  past week, he became furious about what he was seeing in the news. He went to the apartment,  started an argument with the mother, said that Muslims needed to die and tried to kill her.
And when she managed to get away, he killed her son instead. This is  clearly a hate crime, and the FBI should act accordingly.
AMNA NAWAZ: You know, we have seen statements now from President and first lady Biden,  from Vice President Harris, second gentleman Emhoff condemning the attack,  saying hate has no place in America.
We have also seen a number of statements, largely from Republicans, including a candidate for  president Ron DeSantis, saying the U.S. should be rejecting all Palestinian refugees at this time.
What kind of impact do those statements have on the general public?  EDWARD AHMED MITCHELL: Look, I would say the American Muslim community has  been extremely disappointed with the statements we have heard not  only from people on the political right, but also the political left.
There has been a week of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian rhetoric. It almost  seems like we're back to the years after 9/11. We have seen just the  complete ignoring the Palestinian suffering. We have seen hysteria  whipped out about the supposed threat of Muslims and Palestinians in our country.
And that has consequences. So I'm happy to see President Biden and others condemning  this sort of violence and sort of hate, but they need to speak up for all human life,  all Palestinian lives, and say that this is always unacceptable.
And we should not have to welcome refugees from Gaza. We should be  protecting the people of Gaza, so they can stay there in their homes,  and not be forced out of their homes due to the Israeli government's bombing campaign.
But to the extent some refugees do come here, certainly, they should be welcomed.
AMNA NAWAZ: Edward, as you know, there's been a generation of Muslim Americans,  of Arab Americans who know how fast and how dangerously anti-Islamic and anti-Arab  rhetoric can take hold and spark violence. We saw that after 9/11 here in the United States.
Israel has now called this attack by Hamas their 9/11. Have you seen anything else that leads you  to believe there could be more attacks of this kind that killed this little 6-year-old boy?  EDWARD AHMED MITCHELL: If the anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim rhetoric and hysteria that we  saw over the past week continues for weeks to come,I am concerned about what would happen.
But I do want to emphasize one thing. The American Muslim community is not going back  to the years of the post-9/11 America, where we were subject to discrimination and bigotry,  Islamophobia was out of control. We're not going back to that. We are a strong community,  a confident community, and no one is going to bully us into being silent about the suffering of  the Palestinian people are bully us into not going to our mosques or not praying or living our lives.
We are going to carry on, God willing. We would just encourage our neighbors to speak up for  the safety of all people. And we encourage our political leaders especially to do that.
AMNA NAWAZ: In the 30 seconds or so we have left,  for folks out there who are fearful as a result of this attack, what's your message to them?  EDWARD AHMED MITCHELL: Be safe, be vigilant, be cautious, but carry on. Be an activist,  be a worshiper of God, do what you would normally do, but just be careful.
And we should be doing that all the time, given all the threats  that exist here and around the world. But we cannot let anti-Palestinian or  anti-Muslim extremism scare us away from doing what is right and living our lives.
AMNA NAWAZ: That is Edward Ahmed Mitchell,  national deputy executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
Edward, thank you so much for your time.
EDWARD AHMED MITCHELL: Thank you.
