Xiamen to build a new cross-sea bridge

Xiamen's Development and Reform Commission recently approved the Xiangan Airport Area's Liandeng bridge project. The 748-million-yuan cross-sea bridge will run between the intersection of Binhai East Avenue and Lianhe East Road in Xiangan and the island of Dadeng, where it will connect to the Airport North Road.
Officials said that the project will include a 1.6-kilometer route for freight and a three-kilometer bonded channel for the area's free trade zone. Authorities added that the project will improve regional travel conditions and expedite freight transportation.

The first phase of Huandong Cloud Valley recently opened at Xiamen Science City. A total of 247 science, technology and finance companies are currently registered in the area. The firms have a collective registered capital of 13.5 billion yuan.

Foreign students in Xiamen celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival

The China Excellent Calligraphy and Paintings Industry Park recently greeted its first visiting delegation in a celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival. The group included 30 international students from the Institute of Urban Environment of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Language and Culture College of Huaqiao University and Xiamen University.
The Xiamen Software Industry Investment and Development Company joined with the Xiamen Foreign Professionals Service Center and Migration Affairs Service Center to organize the event.
Li Shangcai, the director of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, helped guide the students as they practiced Chinese calligraphy and painting alongside a pair of teachers. Officials from the Xiamen Foreign Professionals Service Center said that the event aimed to showcase Chinese culture.
Visa-free policy extended to int'l group tours from Shanghai

The Ministry of Public Security and the National Immigration Administration recently announced a regional visa-free access policy that allows foreign tour groups entering through Shanghai cruise ports to visit Xiamen and other areas without a visa. Local travel agencies are currently preparing to receive inbound travelers under the new visa-free policy.
The policy is limited to foreign tour groups hosted by registered domestic travel agencies. The groups must enter China via one of Shanghai's cruise ports and follow a single itinerary.
Travel is limited to Beijing and coastal provinces where cruise ships berth as well as the administrative area of the surrounding cities. Areas permitted under the policy include Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hebei, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Shandong, Shanghai, Tianjin and Zhejiang. The duration of stay is limited to 15 days.
Xiamen tops annual Urban Convenience Store Development Index

The China Chain Store and Franchise Association recently released its annual China Urban Convenience Store Development Index. Xiamen retained its place atop the index for the fourth consecutive year.
The survey assessed 39 cities using indicators such as growth rates, saturation, hours of operation and business environment for convenience stores. Xiamen also topped the business environment subcategory.
China unveils temporary digital IDs for air and rail travelers

National officials last week announced a new temporary digital ID system for travelers using China's airport terminals. 
Temporary ID-processing terminals at airports allow passengers to use self-service machines to register for the system. Xiamen Airport's T3 and T4 terminals also offer in-person assistance counters to help citizens and international travelers obtaining temporary air travel identification.
Registration for the system is available via the 铁路12306 WeChat mini-app. Users must provide a cell phone number, full name, national identification card number and place of registered permanent residence. Users who are verified by face recognition will receive a QR code that functions as a digital form of identification.
A similar program is available for train travelers via the 铁路12306 smartphone app or 铁路12306 WeChat mini-app.
Peak season approaches for local cases of infectious diseases

Local health officials noted that October signals the beginning of the local peak season for infectious diseases. Officials said that the increase may be caused by greater temperature fluctuations and an increase in time spent indoors in groups.
Infectious disease that tend to become more prevalent include dengue fever, covid-19, the flu and hand-foot-and-mouth disease. Experts also recommend taking preventive measures against foodborne illnesses caused by bacterial food and poisonous mushrooms.
State Grid Xinyuan Xiamen Pumped Storage Power Station goes online

Power generation has officially commenced at the Number One unit of the State Grid Xinyuan Fujian Xiamen Pumped Storage Power Station. The launch followed the completion of a 15-day trial period. The station is China's first pumped storage power station to exclusively used domestically-manufactured microchips in its station monitoring system.
The new station in the Tongxi township of Tongan is equipped with a quartet of 350,000 kilowatt reversible Francis turbine power generation units.
The power station hub includes an upper reservoir, lower reservoir, water transmission system, underground workshop and switch station. Plant officials said that the power station will offer significant energy saving and emission reduction benefits and will add significant capacity to Fujian's power grid.
Construction expedited during holidays for Xiamen Xiangan Airport

Xiamen Airport Area officials announced last week that construction on the upcoming Xiamen Xiangan Airport quickened during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. More than 5,000 workers remained at the construction site in an effort to catch up with planned construction goals for the year.
Officials said that progress on the steel structure for the main terminal is now 20 percent complete. They added that the installation of the main keel  on the east side of the terminal and the electro-mechanical template and baggage system model is now complete.
Pan Guangcheng, the project's executive manager, noted that steel structure construction is a key part of the main structure construction. The project's roadmap calls for the steel structure grid to be complete by next May, with the terminal fully enclosed by the end of next year.
