9月23号杭州亚运会盛大开幕，我从美联社中找了几段英文，和大家分享：

一
Dignitaries greeted General Secretary, fans packed the 80,000-seat Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Hangzhou to capacity, and many of the 12,417 participants from 45 nations and territories paraded to officially open the two-week show.
By comparison, next year’s Paris Olympics will field about 10,500 competitors.
各国政要对总书记表示亲切问候，粉丝们挤满了杭州奥体中心8万座位的体育场，来自45个国家和地区的12417名参与者齐聚一堂，正式拉开了为期两周的亚运会的帷幕。
相比之下，明年的巴黎奥运会将有约10,500名运动员参赛。
这句话是and连接的三个并列动词短句：X greeted, Y packed and Z paraded.（不是“一个句子有多个谓语”的情况）
形容人爆满、人山人海的场景，就可以用 pack 表示，用法为：人+pack+地点。
这个短语也可以用“地点 be filled with people”或“地点 brim with people”替换，我们把文中句子改写一下：
the 80,000-seat Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Hangzhou brimmed with fans
brim的这个用法源自它的名词含义，即“(杯、碗的)边沿”，如果水达到了杯子的边沿，说明杯子盛满了水，因而引申出“装满、盛满”的意思。
to capacity 意思是指达到了体育场馆的最大容纳量，capacity可用来描述一个场地、车辆、建筑物的容纳量，搭配有 at full capacity 满员、beyond capacity 超出容纳量、near capacity 接近容量等，比如五一、十一景区游客爆满，就可以用 beyond capacity 表示。
parade意思是“列队进行”，常出现在节日庆祝活动、体育赛事的报道中，描述游行队伍行进、代表队入场。
“拉开…的帷幕”的说法很简单：to open sth，也可以说 to mark the start of two weeks of festivities、at the opening of the two-week show、kick off the two-week show 等。
field在体育赛事中有两种常见的用法，一是作名词指“比赛场地”，二是文中用法，作动词指“使某人参赛”，常用来表示参加比赛的运动员数量，此时可以用have替换。
在大选的新闻报道中也会看到这个词，比如某个党派field几个candidates，意思是派出几名候选人参选。
文中这个句子也可以改写成：
In comparison, the Paris Olympics next year will have approximately 10,500 participants.
By contrast, the Paris Olympics next year will be attended by about 10,500 participants.
Contrastingly, the Paris Olympics next year are expected to feature approximately 10,500 competitors.

be billed as 这个短语我们在「精读写作21期」中讲苹果新品Vision Pro时讲过，意思是“被宣传为某事”，回顾一下当时的句子：
But the device that Tim Cook unveiled on June 5th was billed as something more significant.
但蒂姆·库克在6月5日推出的这款设备被宣传为更重磅的产品。
这段话主要讲了杭州亚运会的几个新特点：
1、electronic flash，电子烟花，也可以说 electronic fireworks 或 digital fireworks。
2、3D animations，3D动画，开幕式呈现的是“裸眼3D”，CNN用了 Glasses-free 3D 这个词。
3、a virtual torchbearer，虚拟火炬手，利用了全息投影技术。

The loudest cheers were for the Chinese delegation, but Taiwan, North Korea and Hong Kong were also welcomed warmly. There were no audible jeers for any delegation.
中国代表团收到了最热烈的欢呼声，中国台北、朝鲜和中国香港代表团也受到了热烈欢迎。没有任何代表团遭遇嘘声。
audible 指“听得见的”，前缀“aud-”跟“感知、听”有关，比如 audience 听众，audio 音频、声频。
亚马逊有一款英文听书平台就叫Audible：
jeers 名词指“嘲笑声、嘘声”，no audible jeers 意思是：没有能听得到的嘲笑声，没有听到嘲笑声。

Among the dignitaries on hand were Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who left behind his war-torn country, International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, and King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia.
到场的贵宾有叙利亚总统巴沙尔·阿萨德，他离开了自己饱受战火蹂躏的国家，也有国际奥林匹克委员会主席托马斯·巴赫，以及柬埔寨国王西哈莫尼。
这句话是个倒装，常规语序是：A, B and C were among the dignitaries on hand，ABC三人在现场的贵宾之中。
之所以用倒装，是因为ABC太长，为避免头重脚轻，故放在最后。
on hand 指 immediately available “现场的、现有的”。
在介绍参会人员的时候，我们就可以套用这个句型：Among the dignitaries / distinguished guest on hand were...

Add to this / a long list of what organizers call “mind sports” / from bridge to chess to xiangqi (Chinese chess) to esports. Esports figure to be a giant hit after being a demonstration sport in 2018.
此外，还有一长串主办方称之为“智力运动”的项目，从桥牌到国际象棋再到象棋，甚至电子竞技。电子竞技在2018年曾是示范项目，如今看来将会大获成功。
Add to this a long list of 这句话也是个倒装，常规语序是：a long list of... add to this. 一连串的...使运动项目(this)增加了，即，之前有一些运动项目，这次又多了一批。翻译时可以灵活一点，处理成“此外、再加上”。
写作中表示并列，或罗列多个对象时，就可以套用这个表达。
我们造个句子：
Add to this a wide array of traditional sports like soccer, basketball, and tennis, which continue to capture the world's attention with their thrilling competitions and passionate fan base.
此外，还有一系列传统体育项目，如足球、篮球和网球，这些运动通过激烈的竞争和热情的球迷群体继续吸引着全球的关注。
figure这里是个动词，意思是“预测、估计、计算”。在这个语境中，Esports figure to be a giant hit 的意思是，预计电子竞技将会非常成功或大受欢迎。
figure表示“估计、预计”时，常常和on搭配，如：
I hadn't figured on getting home so late. 
我没有估计到这么晚才回到家。
