ChiRP! 网站设计

自2022年3月以来，莱克星顿青少年科学艺术团（Lexington Youth STEAM Team）有幸与莱克星顿图书馆基金会合作举办ChiRP！网站设计活动。这是为我们图书馆大型捐款活动做预热。

我们图书馆儿童活动房还有社区经常使用的大会议室因为高频使用，迫切需要被翻新了。七八百万美元的预算，政府负责大头，$750,000 需要靠社区募捐。我们Lexington Youth STEAM Team 义工承担了募捐网站的设计。这对高中生义工们也是一个激动人心的挑战。

这半年来，义工们百忙之中抽出时间每周开会讨论方案，按照图书馆基金会理念来设计网站。为了更好的呈现基金会理念，这两天一直在密集开会，讨论各种网站设计方案。这次捐款活动凝聚了图书馆基金会和义工们的心血和汗水，受益全镇每个热爱图书馆的家庭和孩子。

Cary图书馆基金会的月刊

在2023年8月Cary图书馆基金会的月刊上，活动管理组组长Irene Gao在月刊上发表了这次活动对莱镇社区的影响。

文章写道：ChiRP! 网站的设计活动号召了对科技充满热情的低年级学生以及对领导力和创造力感兴趣的高年级学生。莱镇图书馆基金会的支持使得次活动进行的十分顺利，参赛的学生们以及莱镇青少年科技团的志愿者也受益匪浅。列克星敦青年STEAM团队很幸运地与Cary图书馆基金会合作，举办了一场活动，协助基金会的ChiRP！网站设计，让列克星敦社区参与学生黑客马拉松活动，扩大影响。我们联系了对STEM充满热情的低年级学生和对领导力感兴趣的高年级学生。Cary图书馆基金会在协调这次活动时给予了支持，并非常有帮助。

A whole lot of support.

The Lexington Youth STEAM Team was fortunate to work with the Cary Library Foundation to host an event assisting the Foundation with its ChiRP! website design, engaging the Lexington community with a student hackathon event. We reached out to both younger students with a passion for STEM and older students interested in leadership. The Cary Library Foundation was supportive and beyond helpful in the coordination of this event.

Morning tutorial sessions on graphic design and web development hosted by Kevin Zhu, Ethan Shao, Jaden Leung, and Baoren Liu ran smoothly, while other STEAM team members circulated the room to answer questions. Following the tutorial and lunch, the students were divided into over twenty small groups. Each group worked on a website design. These designs were evaluated and six groups judged winners based on key metrics.

The event's success was a direct result of the rapport and passion held by the members of the STEAM Team and the supportive adults within the community. The mother of 9th grade participant, Andrew Pan, noted that “to be able to design a website in just a few hours with the help of the Lexington STEAM volunteers was incredible.” For participants such as Andrew, this experience not only taught about computer science and coding, but also provided inspiration for serving the public good.

The work on the Foundation website has just begun. The STEAM team will dedicate more time and coordinate with the Cary Library Foundation on further site development. We will continue to contribute to our community, and we hope to encourage others to share our passion for both STEAM and for community service.
