Welcome to our family members of first-year students, and welcome back to family members of returning students! We are excited to start the new academic year and look forward to engaging with you throughout the fall and spring semesters.
The Fence Post is a monthly e-newsletter sent to family members of current undergraduate students. Each issue will feature campus resources along with upcoming dates, deadlines and events relevant to family members.
Additionally, the Family and Parent website provides campus resources for you and your student, information about events and involvement, the 2023-24 CMU Undergraduate Parent and Family Guide and much more.

Family Weekend 2023

We invite all CMU families to join us for Family Weekend on October 13-14! Family Weekend kicks off a weeklong student break from October 16-20. The weekend offers a robust schedule which includes academic programming, exhibits, student performances, varsity athletic competitions and special events. Registration will be available in mid-September.

The well-being of every individual at Carnegie Mellon is a top priority, and the start of a new academic year is a great time to review CMU’s safety information.
  • Family members can enroll in the CMU-Alert system, our campus emergency notification system that sends email, voice and text messages in the event of a campus emergency.
  • We encourage students to download the Rave Guardian App, a free safety resource that turns your student’s smartphone into a virtual buddy system. The app includes safety timers and a direct link to CMU Police.
