疫情后时代，Test optional政策出炉，ChatGPT等AI软件横空出世，平权运动导致多元化的丧失……这些发展在便利学生和学校申请工作的同时，也磨平了每个申请者的独特性，让他们成为了流水线上的一个标准化“产品”。所以每个学校都在研究到底什么样的学生更适合自己，能为学校社区做出贡献。独立文书题目的设计，不乏为挑选合适学生的一种方式。
正如西北的新文书政策——之所以西北大学提出这个问题，主要还是因为学校希望招收真正愿意入读西北的学生。通过学生针对这篇文书的回答，可以更容易地看到学生入读西北大学的决心，看出学生和学校的匹配度。通用的申请文书并不是单独针对西北大学；学校希望这短短300字的文书，每一个字都应该专门为西北大学量身定制。
丽格建议申请者在进行文书前要仔细阅读题目，不要走捷径，以为单纯换一下学校名字，就可以通用到所有的学校。招生官其实都是“看破不说破”罢了。学生一定要对学校进行充分的了解，一定要寻找到自己与大学的契合的地方，进行文书的撰写。如果学生单纯优秀一定不会录的差，但是不懂的寻找与自己匹配的学校，一定没办法录到最好。
