A Revolutionary Encounter in London

On May 8, 1773, enslaved African-American poet Phillis Wheatley left Boston, traveling to London to promote her book of poetry Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral, to be published there later that summer. During her six week stay Phillis would have the opportunity to meet many notables, one of whom was American founding father Benjamin Franklin. Step into the salon to witness what an encounter between two American icons might have been like, trading news, wit, and wisdom. Written by Debra Weiss, this special staged reading will transport you to the early July of 250 years ago, and its unsung stories that have been lost to time.
Starring Cathryn Phillipe as Phillis Wheatley and Josiah George as Benjamin Franklin.
Doors will open at 6:30.

Experience Folias Duo, a world-class flute and guitar ensemble hailing from Michigan’s freshwater coast as they debut their east coast tour. With music from the duo’s most recent album release Heartdance, they’ll perform original instrumental compositions inspired by life on the road and impressions left by the natural world.
Over the past twenty years, guitarist Andrew Bergeron and flutist Carmen Maret of the Folias Duo have performed across North America, South America, and Europe, with each location’s beauty forging the rhythms, contours, and textures of their meticulously crafted and breathtaking music.

Teens will be introduced to working with clay in engaging and fun ways to make tableware pieces or sculptures, learning from start-to-finish what goes into making ceramics. All levels included. Instructor will offer projects and also give students guidance on more individual pathways.

The instructor Marc Mancuso is a maker, teacher, and thinker who welcomes minutiae, experiments with processes, and pushes materials to extremes. As a ceramics educator for nearly 25 years, Marc still looks forward to discovering better modes of communicating with students and other teachers.

Off-the-Beaten-Path Hikes: Camp Acton

Spend time outdoors this summer with instructor Greory Leschishin and join one or both of these guided hikes to locations you might not have visited before. As we explore these extraordinary sites, we’ll take time to gaze at the natural formations we encounter and hear stories of historical significance along the way. These hikes are easy to moderate. 
Camp Acton/Acton, MA  – Camp Acton Conservation Land is one of three contiguous conservation lands totaling over 400 acres that form Acton’s largest protected natural area. The Boy Scouts had an active camp for years…before membership declined as did interest in this area.  It is now home to several trails that will feature various New England vegetation as well as a variety of birds and mammals.  We will traverse several trails that will also criss-cross a rugged brook.

A Cultural and Historical Reflection of the 1960s through the Music of The Beatles

A Cultural and Historical Reflection of the 1960s Through the Music of The Beatles is a multi-media presentation that highlights the influence The Beatles had on world culture, particularly during the 1960s.
This presentation features live acoustic music and audience sing-alongs, coupled with rare audio and video clips. The audience is involved right from the start as we open with “All My Loving” – the first song played on that historic night in February 1964 when Ed Sullivan introduced The Beatles to America. We then travel back in time to get a brief overview of the band’s beginnings and many more.
This hour-long presentation is suitable for all ages and it is family-friendly. The Beatles have fans in every generation, and their songs are beloved by all.
Presented by Fran Hart, founding member of the Beatles tribute band 4EverFab, with a grant from the Mass Cultural Council.
In-person attendance is on a first-come basis.

New England's Mid-Summer Wildflowers
VIRTUAL - New England’s Mid-Summer Wildflowers with Bill Gette

Registration is required for this event.
Bill Gette will show you an amazing variety of mid-summer wildflowers that flourish in area fields, along forest edges, in wetlands, and beside country lanes. Mid-summer is a great time to search for wildflowers. Bill hopes this presentation will encourage you to go on a wildflower walk. Bill will open his presentation by showing you examples of flower parts (e.g., axil, petiole, sepal); review flower reproductive parts; and discuss flower types. All of these characteristics are key to wildflower identification.
