Research Scientist for Computer Vision and Deep Learning

Job Description
Corporate Research – Research and Technology Center Asia Pacific is a team of international & interdisciplinary scientists, driving cutting edge research to leverage on Asia’s excellent expertise. Scientifically verified knowledge and insights are the foundation of our sustainable solutions. Through our innovation, we develop a vision for the future product of Bosch, evaluate its feasibility, and convert it into practical solutions. We set trends and enable new business opportunities for Bosch.
- Research and development of innovative computer vision, deep learning concepts for Bosch in China and worldwide in the domain of robotics and automation
- Innovative Research and advanced development of 3D point clouding processing, e.g., clustering, registration, and 2D image processing algorithms, e.g., instance segmentation, for automation use cases, systems, demonstrators, and proof-of-concepts.
- Research of innovative concepts of multiple modality perception using image, point cloud, language, and foundation models.
- Participate in the design, development, and validation of the perception pipeline.
- Application of use cases (computer vision, deep learning, robotics) in Bosch plants in China and worldwide
- Cooperation with Bosch corporate research international team and business units worldwide for requirement analysis, evaluate market of new concepts, key technology development, and knowledge transfer for commercialization
- Scouting, identification and tracking of new trends and emerging technologies of robotics in China, derive impacts on Bosch research strategy and identify key partners
- Collaborate with Chinese research institutes and participate in / lead joint projects
Qualifications
- Excellent master degree, ideally PhD, in the field of computer vision, artificial intelligence, robotics, computer science, or related.
- Excellent R&D experiences, deep and up-to-date know-how in 3D computer vision, e.g., 3D point cloud processing, including filtering, segmentation, recognition, registration, and clustering.
- Rich experience in 2D computer vision, e.g., semantic segmentation, instance segmentation.
- Rich experience in multi-modal perception (image, point cloud, language, foundation models).
- Practical hands-on experience in programming skills, such as, C/C++, Python, PyTorch, PCL, OpenCV, Halcon, etc.
- Good knowledge and developing experience in cross platforms of Linux, ROS, and popular development IDEs.
- Good Publication records in top-level conferences, e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, RSS, etc.
- International experience is a plus.
- Passion for innovation & entrepreneurial mindset.
- Excellent communication skills, fluent in Chinese and English (oral and written).

Through our innovation, we develop a vision for the future product of Bosch, evaluate its feasibility, and convert it into practical solutions. We set trends and enable new business opportunities for Bosch.
- Design and develop a flexible and scalable system architecture to enable robust-real-time operation of a large-scale distributed device network that mixes safety- and mission critical operations with general purpose applications
- Develop this architecture to seamlessly integrate distributed resources from high performance cloud computing to edge computing devices and dynamically allocate resources based on Quality-of-Service (QoS) application requirements
- Use this architecture to develop real-time applications for the optimal and automated distribution of perception and intelligence in a distributed system, e.g. in autonomous driving, intelligent transportation, and V2X use cases
- Create high-impact research leading to publications at leading technical conferences and journals
- Cooperate with internal and external partners worldwide, e.g. Chinese research institutes, and participate in / lead joint projects
- Analyze technology and market trends and derive impacts on research strategy and identify key partners
Qualifications
Required:
- Excellent Masters degree, ideally PhD, in the field of computer science, IT infrastructure systems, electrical engineering, communications engineering, or related fields
- Expertise in at least two related topics (edge/cloud computing, distributed systems, dependable/reliable system architecture, quality of service system architecture, IoT, multi-agent frameworks), complemented by strong general knowledge of both theory and practice across the field
- Proficiency and practical experiences in one (or more) programming languages, e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, Rust, GO
- Passion for innovation, problem solving & entrepreneurial mindset
- Initiative and willingness to implement research results in industrial environment
- Strong team player with autonomous and efficient working style
- Excellent communication skills, fluent in English (oral and written)
Preferred:
- Ability to architect/design highly complex technical systems (e.g. Apache Spark, Kubernetes, Hadoop) and demonstrate their viability/value via creation of advanced prototypes
- Knowledge in functional safety is a strong plus
- Project experience in the automotive or smart infrastructure domain, e.g. autonomous driving, driver assistance systems, V2X is a strong plus
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: ROS, container technologies (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker), wireless communication, 5G, is a plus
- Knowledge of sensor or perception technologies (e.g. camera, radar, LiDAR, sensor fusion) is a plus
- International experience is a plus
