Reading Into History
Reading Into History: Book Chat on 1919 The Year That Changed America
Date: Tuesday, May 09, 06:30 - 08:00 pm
 Location: The Depot
13 Depot Square Lexington, MA 02420
The social issues we deal with in the world today are nothing new, as exemplified by the tumultuous upheaval of the year 1919. Stepping out of the devastation of World War I and a global pandemic, tensions ran high in a society trying to find a new sense of identity. The newfound freedom of women’s suffrage and labor movements clashed with growing nationalism and racism, as society grappled with what it meant to be an American. From the Great Molasses Flood to Prohibition, Martin Sandler’s latest book takes a tour through twelve months in which each of these debates reached a tipping point.
Doors will open at 6:30 PM for refreshments; the book chat begins at 7:00 PM.

Celebrate AAPI Diversity and Inclusivity
Celebrate AAPI Diversity and Inclusivity—- Make Lunar New Year an Official Holiday
 Date: Sat, May 20
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich cultural heritage, history, and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) to the United States.
AAPIs have contributed significantly to American society. We are advocating for making Lunar New Year an official holiday. Lunar New Year is celebrated by over 1.5 billion people around the world, including many AAPI communities here in the United States. Making Lunar New Year an official holiday is a step towards accepting Asian Americans as an integral part of the society, promoting inclusion and recognition of AAPI culture and traditions, and fostering understanding and respect.
