该书描写了四九年国共内战时被拆散在海峡两岸的两姐妹,在各自奋斗历程中的成就与坎坷, 她们被迫在家庭、国家和自我之间做出选择,最终凭着不凡的决心和毅力双双在政治的动荡中找到人生的意义。这对不屈不挠的两姐妹的近一个世纪的人生历程是中国现代史的一个写照。

Dance Around the World (DAW) is a public art project, where the many cultures represented in and around Lexington will share their cultures through dance. Sponsored by The Lexington Council for the Arts (LCA) and the Town Celebrations Committee (TCC), Dance around the world invites you to join the show!  

Dance offers a fun, accessible, yet challenging art form to engage people of all ages and abilities. The goals are to highlight the remarkable cultural diversity of the Town, engage the community, and increase a sense of community and pride.

Panama’s Incredible Wildlife with Bill Gette 
Time: Thur, 3/2

VIRTUAL  
Bill Gette has led many travel programs to Panama for Mass Audubon. During this richly illustrated lecture, Bill will take you to two of the most rewarding natural areas in the country - Soberania  National Park near Panama City and El Valle de Antón located in the central mountains. In Soberania National Park, Bill has photographed a wide variety of wildlife, including Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth, Mantled Howler Monkey, Green Honeycreeper, and Leaf-cutter and Army ants. From El Valle (“The Valley”), Bill will share his photographs of Rufous Motmot, Keel-billed Toucan, Basilisk Lizard, and incredible insects and beautiful tropical plants. Bill will also include photographs of ships passing through the Panama Canal at Miraflores Locks and scenes from a village market in El Valle.

Daughters of the Flower Fragrant Garden with Author Zhuqing Li

Author Zhuqing Li will discuss her new memoir, Daughters of the Flower Fragrant Garden: Two Sisters Separated by China's Civil War. She will share the journey of her two maternal aunts who were accidentally separated when China split in 1949. The two sisters refused to submit to the random power of history and fought their way to the elite echelons of the two opposing societies after China's split." A question and answer session will follow. 
Zhuqing Li was a longtime Lexington resident. She is currently a visiting associate professor of East Asian Studies and faculty curator of East Asian Collections at the Brown University Library. Her main field of research is Chinese linguistics, especially dialectology. She has authored three academic books on Chinese linguistics and one on Chinese returnees. Her latest book has received rave reviews from the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, among others. More information can be found on Lizhuqing.com

Erika Huber is the Youth and Family Program Coordinator for Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. She holds degrees in Forestry and Horticulture and has over ten years of experience working with children in environmental and gardening education. 

Erika will present a visually inspiring slideshow on the plants, features, and activities of a children’s garden that will attract and engage children of all ages. The presentation will elaborate on how water, soil, specific planting activities, creative features, and living creatures all play a part in the make-up of an unforgettable children’s garden.

The War in Ukraine with General Leonid Kondratiuk

Retired Brigadier General and Ukrainian-American Leonid Kondratiuk will call on his 40 years as a military historian to place the current Russian incursion into Ukraine in historical context. Known as the breadbasket of Europe, Ukraine has been coveted and invaded by conquerors, including Hitler and Stalin, for centuries. Gen Kondratiuk will analyze the strategic, operational, and tactical capabilities of the opposing armies and expose the myth of Russian invincibility, and he will discuss how the Ukrainian military underwent a complete metamorphosis under US guidance and training.

Five Techniques for Deeper Sleep with Rick Clerici

In Five Techniques for Getting Deeper Sleep we will explore the nature of stage 3, slow wave sleep. Even people who seem to get a full night’s sleep don’t always get as much deep, restorative sleep as is optimal. We will look at the conditions that interfere with deep sleep and study techniques that can insure ample restorative. Knowledge of these five techniques can make a huge difference in sleep quality. Each attendee will also receive a sleep recording that improves initiating and maintaining sleep.

This workshop is an opportunity for people of all drawing abilities, from absolute beginner to pro, to come together around the act of drawing from a live model in a meditative way, by slowing down and paring away everything external to the process of observation and creation.  
Like a yoga class, the workshops will emphasize compassion and non-judgement, and the deep focus that harnesses the naturally meditative aspects of drawing from a live model to relax the mind and body. Attendees will sit together in a warm and comfortable space, listening to calming music, and observing as the teacher demonstrates simple ways to relax into the process of drawing.

A Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program connects you with your food. By buying a share in the winter, you’re reserving weekly pick-ups of sustainably-grown produce right here on our farm. In the summer and fall, you visit the farm to pick them up. 
We plant, grow, and harvest vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers to provide fresh, certified-organic produce to the community. And, we partner with local farms to supplement what we can’t grow. This allows us to offer fruit, mushrooms, and additional varieties of vegetables. 
2023 flower, fruit, preserves, fall vegetable and mushroom shares are all waiting for you!

Voices on the Green
SEEKING STORYTELLERS 
Voices on the Green, a live storytelling and music series now inits fifth season, seeks storytellers for its next show,“I Was There’ to be performed on Friday May 5 at First Parish in Lexington.
We are looking for your personal stories of being an eye witness to history. If an historic or family event, disaster, court decision orlegislation left a lasting impact on you, you may have a story to tell.
Did desegregation of Boston Public Schools change your life? Were you a teacher, airline worker, or immigrantshaken by the events on Sept. 11, 2001? Were you a runner or first responder atthe Boston Marathon bombing? Were you in the path of a hurricane–or involved inrescue efforts following it? Did you triumph over a difficult upbringing,illness, or trauma? These are but a few examples of hundreds of events whichmay be the spark of your story.
