The World Hokkien Golden Melody Grand Prix continued last Sunday with a pair of competitive rounds. The first round narrowed selected 20 contestants from an initial pool of 50 singers. The second round selected 10 finalists. The contest began on November 6 with more than 6,000 participants from a dozen countries.
XM announces updated nucleic acid test policies

City officials last week announced a series of updates to its nucleic acid test policy. Nucleic acid test results are no longer mandatory in all medical institutions. Restrictions remain in place for inpatient departments, newly admitted patients and companions.
Tests are no longer mandatory to enter government offices, enterprises and other business places. Negative nucleic acid test results are still required to enter nursing homes and welfare homes as well as primary and secondary schools.
Xiamen authorities last week also announced the debut of second covid-19 booster shots for adults who received an initial booster shot more than six months ago. Authorities urged boosters for people who are at high risk of infection, who are more than 60 years old, who have serious underlying diseases or who have a weakened immune system.
Local Gezai opera earns national award

The Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee recently conferred its Outstanding Works award to a Gezai opera entitled Letters and Money Remitted from Overseas Chinese. Xiamen Gezai Troupe produced the opera. A total of 750 entries were considered for the awards, with 97 works earning official accolades.

Local authorities urged residents to restrict the use of the 120 hotline to serious emergencies in the wake of a rise in seasonal illnesses and covid-19.
Authorities noted a surge in the number of individuals calling 120 to request emergency vehicles for common symptoms such as fever and cough. Officials urged residents to use 120 for critical patients in need of emergency help in order to deliver timely and effective treatment.
Authorities announced new train ticket policies for minors

Local official recently announced a change in ticket policies and prices for minors that will come into force on January 1. Children under the age of six may travel free of charge but may not occupy their own seat and must be accompanied by an adult.
Tickets purchased for children between the ages of six and thirteen must be purchased with government-issued identification in order to qualify for a discount. Children over the age of 14 are ineligible for a discount.
Xiamen Library rolls out improved delivery service

Xiamen Library officials last week announced the debut of the beta version of its Flying Pigeon Book 2.0 book delivery service. Library patrons can order from 600,000 books through its official 厦门市图书馆 WeChat account. Books are sent to patrons via express delivery service.
XM hosts China Supply Chain Management Annual Conference

The Third China Supply Chain Management Annual Conference opened last week in Xiamen. The conference coincided with the award ceremony of the National Supply Chain Competition (Enterprise Group). 
Other events included the annual meeting of the International Procurement and Supply Management Alliance in Asia Pacific as well as the joint meeting of the National Provincial Supply Chain Industry Association.
The conference included both online and in-person discussions of topics such as supply chain innovation and application as well as supply chain resilience and security. Other topics included supply chain management transformations, upgrades and innovations.
Xiamen Overseas Student Pioneer Park ranks third for competitiveness

The Overseas Student Pioneer Park Committee of China Technology and Entrepreneurship Association recently joined with the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Science and Development to release a competitiveness report ranking the incubation bases of overseas student pioneer parks.
The Xiamen Overseas Student Pioneer Park moved up one spot to ranked third overall this year, up one place from last year’s assessment. 
The report covered 60 incubation bases that are collectively home to more than 4,500 start-ups run by returned students. More than 51,000 overseas students work in the assessed incubation bases. 
The incubation bases have introduced and cultivated more than 5,800 innovative and entrepreneurial talents at the municipal, provincial and national levels. 
Xiamen to build alliance for new energy usage of lithium

Fujian's Development and Reform Commission recently released a suite of proposals designed to bolster the development of the new energy and new materials sectors, with a particular emphasis on the use of lithium.
The plan lays out a path for Fujian entities to be in the position produce lithium batteries with a potential collective storage of 500 gigawatt hours by 2025. The targets include an output value exceeding 600 billion yuan across the sector’s industrial chain. The proposals include more than 1,000 electric vehicle battery stations.
XM's export volume tops 422B yuan

Xiamen is home to more than 20,000 registered export enterprises in Xiamen. Total municipal exports topped 422.2 billion yuan through November. Exports posted a year-on-year growth rate of 8.1 percent in the first 11 months of the year.
Aggregate export tax rebates and remissions handled by Xiamen Tax Service reached 38 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth rate of 11.4 percent.
PBOC releases New Year commemorative coins

People's Bank of China announced last week that its 2023 New Year commemorative coins are now available for purchase. The bank's set of New Year's coins include a gold coin, a silver coin and a two-toned copper alloy coin. 
The reverse sides of the gold and silver coins feature dancing lions and the Chinese character fu, which means blessings and happiness.
