Why attend?
Respecting elders is a traditional virtue in China. Since 2013, the ninth day of the ninth lunar month was designated as Chinese Seniors’ Day, which is also the Double Ninth Festival (known as “重阳节”.)
The workshop will show your kids the meaning and traditions of the Double Ninth Festival. While they have deeper understanding of the festival, the students will also work out an amazing Double Ninth gift to show their love to the seniors in the family. We will help you deliver the gift (if you want)!
What will your kids gain from this workshop?
1) The traditions of the Double Ninth Festival, especially how Chinese people respect and take care of seniors;
2) A mini-project which your kids can proudly show their learnings to their grandparents, e.g. a Chinese word, a character, a Double Ninth symbol, etc. We will help you deliver the gift (if you want).
3) We will also have some group activities that kids can play together and have fun!

About the Double Ninth Festival:
According to records from the mysterious book Yi Jing, the number 9 was thought to be of the Yang character, which is a traditional Chinese spiritual concept. On the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, both day and month are Yang characters. Therefore, the festival was named the Double Ninth Festival.
In ancient times, people believed that the double ninth day was worth a celebration. Since folk people had the tradition of climbing a mountain on that day, the Double Ninth Festival also called the Height Ascending Festival. There are many other traditions about this festival. The most common one is to show our respect to the seniors and ancestors.
