More than 2,200 new conveniences stores opened in Xiamen

More than 2,200 new convenience stores opened in the city of Xiamen last year, according to the organizers of the upcoming China Convenience Store Conference. The China Chain Store Association recently released a convenience store development indicator that ranked Xiamen first among 39 mainland major cities in 2021.
7,000 local medical workers aid in city-wide nucleic acid test

Xiamen launched a three-day round of mandatory city-wide nucleic acid testing on August 17 in the wake of a covid-19 resurgence. A total of 7,000 medical workers from 28 local hospitals and organizations participated in the testing campaign.
Fujian also dispatched 1,600 medical workers from different places, including 300 from Longyan, 200 from Putian, 800 from Quanzhou and 300 from Zhangzhou. The guest workers conducted sampling at more than 100 test sites in the Qiaoying, Xinglin and Xingbin sub-districts as well as the towns of Guankou and Houxi towns in Jimei.
Tens of thousands of volunteers, social workers and residents also assisted the testing effort. Siming officials said that the district utilized 17,000 volunteers each day.
XM now boasts more than 2,100 5G base stations

The local Commission of Development and Reform last week announced that the city of Xiamen is now home to more than 2,100 5G base stations and 37,000 broadband ports built in the first half of the year by China Mobile, China Telecom, China Tower and China Unicom at a combined cost of 350 million yuan.
China Mobile alone spent 860 million yuan on local 5G network construction in 2020 and 2021. China Mobile invested an additional 157 million yuan on local 5G construction in the year to date, with plans for an additional 33 million yuan in expenditures by the end of the year.
XM offers subsidies of up to 5M yuan for software and emerging digital firms

Representatives of Xiamen's Industry and Information Technology Bureau recently announced the second round of funding for a program designed to boost local firms in the software and emerging digital industries.
The fund offers assistance in areas such as entrepreneurship, software and the adaptation of technologies such as autonomous controllable frame systems. Eligible companies can receive up to five million yuan in aid.
XM set to increase availability of automated delivery lockers

City officials recently announced expedited plans to install more delivery lockers at neighborhood apartment complexes. The city's 15-year-plan announced in 2020 calls for at least one automated delivery locker installation for every thousand local residents. The plan also allocates up to 17.6 square kilometers of local land for logistics facilities.
Locally-caught seafood returns to area markets

The end of the summer moratorium on fishing in local waters recently heralded the return of locally-caught seafood to the Zhangpu and Dongshan markets in Zhangzhou. Initial supplies are also beginning to return to Xiamen markets. Seafood prices are expected to drop by 10 to 15 percent on the strength of increased supplies.
XM aims to become a Gigabit City in 2022

Xiamen officials overseeing the local drive to roll out 5G networks and high-speed wired internet throughout the city recently provided an update on its drive to become a Gigabit City by the end of the year.
Officials said that the city is on track to provide gigabit fiber-optic networks in all urban residences in the city by the end of November. Plans call for the local 5G network to reach at least 80 percent of the urban population in the same timeframe. Other key benchmarks include the provision of more than 18 5G base stations for every 10,000 residents.
Wakesurfing and parasailing popularity surges in XM

Local representatives of the ocean-based leisure industry noted recently a surge in participation in maritime-based leisure activities such as wakesurfing and parasailing.
The Wuyuan Yacht Culture Development Company noted that wakesurfing participation has jumped since its introduction at the beginning of the year. Boat outings catering to wakesurfing and parasailing now account for up to 20 percent of all boat activity in Wuyuan bay operated by the company.
Xiangan bridge slated to close later this month

Construction work continues on the Xiangan bridge, with workers currently positioning upper segmental precast piers for the oversea portion of the bridge. All the piers of the oversea span have been hoisted.
Hoisting for the primary components of the oversea span of the bridge is expected to wrap up this month, at which point the entire bridge will close. Local authorities expect to open the bridge to vehicular traffic next year.
Xiamen Museum launches text-based videos for hearing-impaired patrons

The Xiamen Museum recently launched a new series of videos that provide visualization services for hearing-impaired museumgoers. The campaign is entitled Let me Introduce the Xiamen Museum.
The museum released the first video for the campaign on its website and on WeChat and Weibo. The text-rich video provides historical and cultural context for exhibits in the museum.
Museum representatives said that the project aims to reach all categories of museumgoers and to help hearing-impaired patrons explore the museum's offerings in greater depth.
XM-based medical insurance now usable across China

Xiamen authorities announced recently that residents with locally-based public health insurance can now purchase medicine and other medical services  from providers in other parts of China.
The city of Xiamen is among the first municipalities in Fujian to implement a nationalized set of records that allow for patients to utilize medical services outside their legal place of residence. Local residents can use their medical insurance electronic certificate or social security card to obtain and pay for services throughout the country.
