Xiamen wins government-procurement business environment award

The city of Xiamen received an excellence award for its government procurement business environment at the recently-held Chinese Government Procurement Summit. Xiamen ranked first for its business environment in the sector for the past two years.
Xiamen last year released a series of policies to improve the local business environment. It has ranked in China's top three in terms of procurement transparency for the past two years.
Fujian's Development and Reform Commission last year declared Xiamen to be the provincial benchmark for governmental procurement indicators. The city is used as a benchmark for nine cities and areas in Fujian.
Xiamen expands to 40 community canteens

Local officials last week debuted a new community canteen in the Lujiang sub-district, bringing the number of community canteens to 40 in Xiamen. The government-sponsored canteens include community monitor and are run by private enterprises. The canteens provide subsided meals to neighborhood senior citizens.
Local commutes fall under 45 minutes for 84 percent of workers

A recent report on commuting times in 44 cities indicated that Xiamen boasts the shortest average commuting distance, clocking in at 2.2 kilometers. A total of 84 percent of local workers spend less than 45 minutes commuting to work.
Trio of XM-based enterprises make Fortune Global 500 list

Fortune magazine last week released its annual list of global 500 firms ranked by revenue, including a trio of Xiamen-based enterprises on the rankings. Xiamen C&D ranked 77th overall, followed by the Xiamen ITG Holding Group at 106 and the Xiamen Xiangyu Group at 160. The rankings of all three firms increased from last year. Xiamen C&D cracked the top 100 for the first time with annual revenue of 720 billion yuan. This is the sixth year for Xiamen C&D and Xiamen ITG on the list, and the fifth year for the Xiamen Xiangyu Group.
XM pop music competition prepares for debut

Registration is now open for musicians hoping to enter Xiamen's pop music competition entitled The Strongest Voice of the Times. Participants must be more than 16 years old. Registration concludes on September 1. The project is supported by the Xiamen Art Development Special Fund, guided by the Fujian Musicians Association and sponsored by the Xiamen Popular Music Association. Co-sponsors include the Xiamen Press Media Group. Musicians can sign up via the 厦门市流行音乐协会 WeChat account. Auditions will run from September 1 through October 1.
XM international auto show revs up for November 11 debut

The annual China·Xiamen International Auto Show recently held its first official work conference of the year at the Wutong Fliport Hotel.
The four-day auto show will open on November 11 at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. Convention representatives said that this year's show will feature a record-high number of participating brands, including BYD, Changan Automobile, Chery and Great Wall Motors.
New waste-to-power plant set to power up in 2023

Local authorities announced that the third phase of the East Domestic Waste Incineration Power Plant is on track to begin delivering power in the first half of 2023. Construction on the facility is 90 percent complete, with hydraulic testing set to begin for the plant's incinerator.
The incineration power plant will be able to process more than 5,800 tons of household waste per day. City officials said that the combination of the new plant and the city's current kitchen waste treatment plant and food waste treatment plant will provide sufficient capacity to deal with Xiamen's predicted increase in garbage over the next five years.
XM's fixed asset investment rose 10.5% in first half of the year

City officials announced las week that Xiamen's fixed asset investment grew by 10.5 percent to a total investment of 160.2 billion yuan in the first half of the year. Investment by the Jianan Investment Holding Group reached 71.4 billion yuan, up 21.6 percent. Jianan's investment accounted for 44.6 percent of overall Xiamen investment. Xiamen's infrastructure investment reached 51.1 billion yuan, up 21.8 percent year-on-year. Transportation investment soared by 40 percent while investment in the water conservancy, environment administration and public facilities management industry jumped by 10 percent.
XM commerce numbers jump in first half of the year

Local officials last week released a report on commercial and trade performance in Xiamen in the first half of the year. Wholesale and retail sales in Xiamen registered a total volume of 1.87 trillion yuan, up 26.6 percent over the same period last year. Xiamen notched the highest growth rate in Fujian. Above-norm wholesale and retail sales hit 1.7 trillion yuan, up 29.0 percent year-on-year. The sale of bulk commodities and apparel drove the sector's growth. Online retail sales notched double-digit growth. Above-norm sales in the catering industry hit 5.71 billion yuan, up 22.2 percent year-on-year.
Ballastless track laying complete for Anhai bay's high-speed railway bridge

Area officials last week announced the completion of the laying of ballastless track across the Anhai bay bridge for the Fuzhou-Xiamen-Zhangzhou high-speed railway. The project is the first in China to use ballastless track on a cross-sea cable-stayed bridge for a high-speed railway.
The Anhai bay bridge stretches for more than 9.4 kilometers, including a span of 1.5 kilometers over the sea. The bridge will be able to accommodate trains at speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour.
The new railway will reduce travel time between Xiamen and Fuzhou to less than one hour.
SAIC Motor makes inaugural export of electric vehicles via Xiamen Port
厦门口岸首批纯电动汽车出口欧洲
SAIC Motor recently shipped more than 900 of its Morris Garages battery electric vehicles to Europe via sea. The shipment marks the first time for Xiamen Port to process electric vehicles destined for the European market.
The shipment is also SAIC Motor's first batch of electric vehicles to be exported via Xiamen. The electric vehicles are slated for sale in England and in Belgium.
