Gulangyu tourism rebounds

City representatives announced last week that tourist visits to Gulangyu are steadily rebounding. Gulangyu received 562,000 tourists in June, translating to roughly 18,000 daily visits. Officials attributed part of the growth to the implementation of free entry at a number of Gulangyu scenic spots as of June 19.

Xiamen per capita disposable income in the first half of this year hit a new high of 36,048 yuan, according to data from China's National Bureau of Statistics. Xiamen's figures are up 5.4 percent year-on-year, notching Fujian's sixth highest rate of growth.
XM trade volume hits new high in first half of 2022

Local Customs officials announced last week that Xiamen in the first half of the year notched a combined import and export trade volume of 444.3 billion yuan. The record-high total was up 8.3 percent year-on-year.
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) countries collectively claimed the highest volume of trade with a total of 84.5 billion yuan. The United States followed up with 65.7 billion yuan and the European Union placed third at 51.1 billion yuan.
Xiamen trade volume with countries associated with the Belt and Road Initiative reached 151.8 billion yuan, up 16.7 percent year-on-year. The volume of trade with BRICS nations reached 38.4 billion yuan, up by 20.4 percent year-on-year.
The export volume of electromechanical products via Xiamen in the first half of the year amounted to 97.5 billion yuan, accounting for 43.2 percent of the total exports.
32,000 XM donors gave blood in first half of the year

The Xiamen Blood Center recently reported that more than 32,000 people in Xiamen participated in a local blood donation drive in the first half of the year. The blood drive gathered a total of 9.6 million milliliters of blood.
Last year, the city had 64,000 blood donors and a total blood donation of 18.7 million milliliters, the city's highest-ever total. Xiamen's blood donation rate reached 12.4 donations per 1,000 residents, ranking first in Fujian.
Xiamen boosts development of local integrated circuit industry

Xiamen authorities recently announced plans for a suite of measures designed to boost the local integrated circuit industry. The program includes more than a dozen subsidies in areas such as talent introduction, research and development and ecological construction.
Enterprises that qualify for the program are eligible for a subsidy of up to 10 million yuan. University graduates who take a position in an integrated circuit enterprise in Xiamen within three years after graduation and who sign a labor contract of more than two years in length are eligible for income subsidies. The subsidies range from 18,000 yuan for undergraduate degree to 30,000 yuan for master's degree holders to 42,000 yuan for new graduates with a doctoral degree.
Xiamen Mass Culture Society prepares to launch street culture activity series

Representatives of the Xiamen Mass Culture Society announced last week that the organization will launch in September its Citizen Stage program. Event organizers described the program as a platform for art groups and organizations, art training schools, performance teams and street artists in Xiamen.
The event is sponsored by the Xiamen Culture and Tourism Bureau and organized by the Xiamen Mass Culture Society. Citizen Stage will include live performances in genres such as music and dance, traditional opera and folk art, acrobatics and magic and painting. More information is available at (1805) 928-5969.
Interview series places spotlight on Fuzhou, Longyan and Xiamen

Xiamen last week hosted the official launch of an interview series highlighting the strengths of Fuzhou, Longyan and Xiamen. The interview series is entitled A Date With China - Hello Fujian.
Event sponsors include the Publicity Department of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee, the Fujian Province Internet Information Office and ChinaDaily.com.cn.
During the four-day event, a 60-member team of domestic and overseas reporters from news organizations and websites visited the trio of cities. Reporters covered the economic and social development of the trio of cities, as well as their ecological civilization construction.
The event also focused on how local entrepreneurs, organizations and residents are part of an increasingly online and digitally-connected community. Organizers described the interview series as part of the run-up to the upcoming Digital China Summit, which will take place on July 23 in Fuzhou.
Rail-laying begins for subway system's Line Six

Local officials announced the official kickoff last week of rail-laying for the subway system's upcoming Line Six. The 18-kilometer route will stretch between Lindai West and Huaqiao University, featuring a total of 13 stations. Double-tunnel drilling is complete for nine of the 13 sections of Line Six.
Xiamen to host International Cross-border E-commerce Expo

The China (Xiamen) International Cross-border E-commerce Expo will open on August 17 at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. The three-day expo will include pavilions for Japan and for BRICS nations. Companies featuring pavilions include Alibaba and Amazon. The expo will also include a global product procurement matchmaking area.
Featuring more than 50 conferences and activities, the expo will showcase an array of cross-border e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Alibaba Global, AliExpress, eBay, Google, NewEgg Marketplace and Wish.
CIFIT hosts promotion conference in run-up to September 8 opening

Xiamen is set to host the 22nd edition of the China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) on September 8. The event's theme this year is centered on digital technologies and green investments. CIFIT's organizing group last week hosted in Guangzhou its first promotion conference of the year, issuing a call for domestic and international merchants to attend the four-day event. This year's convention will host more than 30 in-person and online forums. 
XM set to host 5G app competition

The municipal government announced that Xiamen will host the second edition of its 5G application competition later this year. Officials describe the event as part of the city's effort to promote the development of the local 5G industry in areas such as application design and service. The event will run from September through October. Potential participants may sign up through the end of August.
Xiamen is home to a significant number of companies working in the 5G sector. Area companies that create products and services tied to 5G work in fields such as VR/AR games, 8K video streaming, telemedicine, port logistics and autonomous driving.
Bailuzhou West Park to debut new fitness trail in August

City authorities announced last week plans for a new fitness trail in Bailuzhou West Park. The 1.1-kilometer trail will replace current concrete roads in the park with colored asphalt that offers more cushion for walkers and jogger. The trail will also feature new landscaping and upgraded lighting. Officials said that the majority of work on the trail is already complete. The trail is set to debut on August 20.
