  1. BBC
  3. 路透社

BBC
It has led to an outcry on social media and re-ignited debate about gender violence in China.
The incident began when a man put his hand on a woman's back in a restaurant and she pushed him away.
The man is seen striking her before others drag her outside and continue attacking as she lies on the floor.
……
Two of the women were admitted to hospital and were in a "stable condition and not in mortal danger", while two others sustained minor injuries, officials said.
Police in Tangshan, in northern Hebei province, said they had arrested nine people on suspicion of violent assault and "provoking trouble".
The attack dominated discussion on Chinese social media on Saturday, taking up the top six places of Weibo's most-discussed topics.
It has led to an outcry on social media and re-ignited debate about gender violence in China.
China's "ugly textbook illustration" scandal has ignited fierce debate.
The incident began when a man put his hand on a woman's back in a restaurant and she pushed him away.
这句话交代了事件起因,The incident began when...
The incident began with a man putting his hand on a woman's back in a restaurant and she pushing him away.
The man is seen striking her before others drag her outside and continue attacking as she lies on the floor.
Two of the women were admitted to hospital and were in a "stable condition and not in mortal danger", while two others sustained minor injuries, officials said.
入院、住院”可以说 be admitted to hospital,也可以用 be sent/whisked to hospital 或 be hospitalized 替换。
与之相对的“出院”是 leave hospital, be out of hospital 或 be discharged from hospital.
事故类新闻中常出现的“伤者情况稳定”,英文是 in a stable condition,“脱离生命危险、无生命危险”的英文是 not in mortal danger.
Russia and Ukraine were locked in mortal war.
Tangshan's reputation as a civilized city suffered a mortal blow because of the scandal.
while two others sustained minor injuries 中,sustain 在这里是熟词僻义,不是“维持”,而是“遭受”,相当于 suffer,比如 sustain a defeat 遭遇失败。
Police in Tangshan, in northern Hebei province, said they had arrested nine people on suspicion of violent assault and "provoking trouble".
arrest sb on suspicion of...
The attack dominated discussion on Chinese social media on Saturday, taking up the top six places of Weibo's most-discussed topics.
形容某个话题热度很高,我们就可以用 dominate(占据主要地位)来表示:XX dominate the discussion on social media / the internet.
The scandal that Li yundi, China's 'Piano Price', was datained for hiring prostitute, has become one of the top trending hashtags on Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter.
The graphic video, which has gone viral on China's Weibo social media platform, shows a man approaching a table at a barbecue restaurant and touching a woman around 2:40 a.m. local time on Friday, then striking her after she pushes him away.

Nine men have been arrested over a vicious attack on a group of women at a restaurant in northern China, in a case that prompted outrage over predatory sexual behaviour and violence against women.
我们前面讲的 arrest sb on suspicion of...
case 此处意为“事件、案件”,指前面“a vicious attack on a group of women at a restaurant in northern China”这起事件。case 后面还加了个定语从句:that prompted outrage over predatory sexual behaviour and violence against women.
outrage 指 a feeling of great anger and shock “震怒”,后面可加介词 at/over,表示“对...
There is widespread public outrage over the massacre.
A sexual predator is a person who seeks out sexual contact with another person in a predatory or abusive manner.

Surveillance footage of men assaulting women at a restaurant in the northeastern city of Tangshan has unleashed a flood of outrage on Chinese social media, prompting state media calls for punishment and renewing a debate over the treatment of women.
Surveillance footage has unleashed a flood of outrage on Chinese social media
All red tape that strangles efforts to unleash innovation needs to be cut.
The surveillance footage has unleashed a wave of outrage.
回到文中来,Surveillance footage 后面又通过介词 of 补充了监控录像的内容:of men assaulting women at a restaurant in the northeastern city of Tangshan
我们先把这部分写成句子的形式:men assaulted women at a restaurant in the northeastern city of Tangshan
men assaulting women at a restaurant in the northeastern city of Tangshan
1)prompting state media calls for punishment
2)renewing a debate over the treatment of women.
renew = resume,重新开始,看个例句:
Police renewed their appeal for witnesses.
