Research Associate in the Characterisation of Perovskite Solar Cells (Fixed Term)
Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to work as part of the EPSRC funded project 'High-Efficiency Flexible and Scalable Halide-Perovskite Solar Modules', drawing together an exciting collaboration between the University of Surrey, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Sheffield and industry partners National Physical Laboratory, NSG Group and QinetiQ: https://gow.epsrc.ukri.org/NGBOViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/V027131/1. Through this consortium, we will develop fully flexible perovskite solar cells, with our aim being the development of devices that can power wearable technologies and IoT wireless devices.
The successful PDRA candidate for this post will join the Optoelectronic Materials and Device Spectroscopy group led by Dr Sam Stranks (https://www.strankslab.com/) based in the Department of Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology, and will also be part of the Optoelectronics Group (http://www.oe.phy.cam.ac.uk/). We are an inclusive and diverse group driving a number of active outreach and widening participation activities. Collectively, the PDRA will have access to world-leading expertise and facilities in the field of hybrid and organic electronics. The PDRA will perform advanced optical and electrical characterisation of both rigid and flexible perovskite solar cell devices by using and adapting optical and electrical setups, including luminescence-based microscopy, to understand device performance limitations and instabilities in operating devices. The PDRA will be team-oriented and work closely with other PDRAs on this project based at partner institutions, with dynamic knowledge sharing and sample exchange being critical. Daily supervision of research students will also be expected.
We are looking for a qualified candidate with a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering or a related area. A proven track record of scientific publication and presentation at international conferences is essential. Experience in characterising solar cell devices is essential. Experience with halide perovskites including fabrication of devices is highly desired. Experience with optical spectroscopy of semiconductor materials including, but not limited to, time-resolved photoluminescence is also desired.
We particularly encourage those candidates typically underrepresented in the STEM area to apply. Appointment as a Research Associate is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will initially be appointed as a Research Assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded. The Research Assistant salary (grade 5) falls within the range £26,715 to £36,382.
Applications will be rapidly reviewed after the closing date and online interviews conducted shortly thereafter. The candidate would start on 1st September 2022 or as soon as possible after that date with some flexibility.
