Want to participate in the school's Club? Also want to participate in social activities outside the school?
Want to be the Club Leader of the school, and also want to be the leader of social activities outside the school?
Does this describe you?
JuniorCoach is For You!
In the current situation of high school students' academic stress and high pressure, high school students must also cultivate the moral character and leadership that are valued by good universities such as the Ivy League. While taking into account the school club, they must also meet the leadership training of off-campus social activities. Are you troubled about how to organize your time better?
JuniorCoach is now looking for Chapter President! Volunteer teachers can open JuniorCoach branches in their high schools and surrounding areas, and open online and offline activities. As the school club leader, he also became the leader of social activities outside the school.
We are fortunate enough and honored to interview two excellent Chapter Presidents today to share their experiences. They are:
                                    Wade Cheng
Sacramento Chapter President
Weiyu Lin
Texas Chapter President
What motivated you to become a chapter president?
I started volunteering for Juniorcoach during the pandemic. It’s been a great journey, and I got to spend a lot of time with great students and share me skills with them. I became a chapter president because I hoped that by leading other volunteers, I can pass on the experiences that I’ve had and positively impact the community.
I joined the JuniorCoach in 2018. At first, I was only a tutor and taught lesson for about 10 students. Firstly, the more I engaged, the more I found that our association has done a great job in helping kids overcome learning difficulties. Secondly, during 2018 and 2019, I found that the numbers of students are more than the numbers of tutors, so I thought about to ask more tutors to join us. Then, I become a chapter president in 2020 and recruit more tutors and students joining our association.
What are some things you learned from being a chapter president?
The most important thing I learnt is responsibility. As a chapter president, you not only need to handle responsibility as a tutor, you also need to handle the responsibility as a leader. You need to make plan about how to recruit more tutors and students, how to manage the chapter, how to get fundraising for JuniorCoach. Therefore, I spent much more time on it than before.
I’ve learned teamwork from communicating with other members.
What are some techniques that help you to balance your school work and volunteering time?
Being organized is really helpful. If you’re organized, you won’t have to spend time looking for things. You can just start working whenever you want.
Before, I used to practice golf after school, which made me arrive home about 7 pm, Then I had less time to spend on my school work and volunteering time. I was very struggle on it. Then, I decided to get up early during weekdays to play golf. Because of doing this change, I had more time left after I finish my school day.
How do you recruit students and tutors?
At first, I introduced our association to my schoolmates, classmates, golf teammates, and friends. If they were interested in it. I gave them the form and asked them to fill in and join us. Secondly, I made a flyer and posted on some forum, Facebook page, Instagram, and WeChat group.
Please give some advice to the new joining chapter presidents.
Personally, I think clubs are a very rewarding and helpful part of the Juniorcoach program. But the setup is much less simple than doing one-on-one tutoring sessions. I encourage new chapter presidents to make sure that their chapters’ tutors know that clubs exist and how to run them.
Worried about not having enough experience to become chapter president? Do not worry! In addition to recruiting chapter presidents, JuniorCoach is now also recruiting group leaders!
Group leaders are mainly responsible for the management/organization of clubs. Each group leader is responsible for managing clubs of a specific subject. For example, if you can apply to become a math group leader, then you have to conceive a new club (for example: Elementary School Math/ Pre-Agebra/Algebra 1/ Geometry), communicate with club tutors and formulate syllabus, and recruit students.
Becoming a group leader will make you more handy for recruiting students/tutors, managing clubs, and organizing online and offline activities when you are a chapter president!
