众所周知，Common App是美国本科三大申请系统之一，也是申请者最多的一个系统。Common App的文书题目也会经常调整，目的是帮助所有申请者，不论背景、是否使用咨询服务，都能通过这些题目找到共鸣，分享自己的故事。这些题目启发学生对自己、社区、身份以及理想展开思考与讨论，也更方便招生官找到适合自己学校的申请者。
春节刚过，Common App就公布了2021-2022主文书题目，与去年相比，仅更新了一个题目，这也是五年来第一次变更文书题目。CA官方的解释是：淘汰较少使用的选项。

题目一：Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.（无变化）
题目二：The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
解释：通过你遇到的困难，讲述你是如何克服困难或者是失败的经历，这件事对你有什么影响，并在此过程中你收获了什么经验教训。题为写“失败”，但实则应透过这次经历展现你的“成长”，不要一味单纯描述失败。
这个题目在2017年做了微调，增加了“挑战、阻碍内容要求”，之前的要求是只写失败就可以了，申请者应当书写文书时应当注意重点。
题目三：Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?（无变化）
题目四：Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you?（有变化）
（原旧题目）：Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma - anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
新题目是让申请人回想某人为你做的让你惊喜或感激的事。这种感激是如何影响或激励你的?这个题目比较新颖，先是别人对你影响，然后由此对你产生的影响。不仅仅是影响本身，更应该思考你在这种影响下的改变，要有例证。
CA解释到，这个题目灵感来源于感恩话题的探讨，特别是写别人对我们生活的积极影响的好处。猜测可能是由于疫情，我们都可能受益于他人帮助、支持，而这些动人的故事，可能激发我们感恩他人、回馈社区等，以及我们有哪些实际行动等。
Common App总裁兼首席执行官珍妮·里卡德(Jenny Rickard)说到:“尤其是在这个充满挑战的时期，我们可以帮助学生思考生活中积极和真诚的事情。
新的问题将激励学生们书写不一样的故事，大学招生官也会很高兴看到不一样的故事。虽然一个文书题不能抹去过去12个月的失落和焦虑，但它可以证明感恩和善良的重要性。
希望学生们可以看到COMMON这个新问题的初衷——为他们的申请体验带来一些乐趣。
印第安纳大学助理副教务长兼招生执行主任Sacha Thieme这样评价道：
“作为Common Application 咨询委员会的一名成员，我很感激了解到选题这个仔细慎重的过程，包括各种咨询和学生利益相关者，以建议修改文书题目。
在这段艰难的时期，这将会激励学生和那些审阅文书的招生官，让他们想起慷慨和感激可以孕育出喜悦和希望。”
题目五：Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.（无变化）
题目六：Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?（无变化）
题目七：Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.（无变化）
