Introduction
HOW Art Museum·Design Center (HDC) will launch the Master’s Exhibition “Eternal Flow: Zaha Hadid Design×Crossover” from March 23 to July 22, 2018. This is the first exhibition in China that shows crossover works by Zaha Hadid Design.
As the first female architect winning Pritzker Architecture Prize, Zaha Hadid(1950 - 2016) had the unique design style with profound impact on the world’s architectural community. In addition, Hadid was also a master good at crossover. The exhibition focuses on the crossover creations of Hadid. In addition to the debut of the limited home furnishings and installations collected by HOW Design Center, ZHD, London, the co-organizer of this exhibition, will also bring new works in 2018 representing the world’s top design standards. The exhibits range from furniture, home accessories, jewelry, publishing and other fields, so as to provide audiences with the different dimensions of aesthetic perspective to understand Hadid.
The name of the exhibition “Eternal Flow” origins from the core of Hadid’s creation: curve. Hadid was always “opposed to right angle” and is well-known for promoting the integration and flow of spaces, thus many classic buildings are created. Poet Rainer Maria Rilke once said, “The future stands still.....but we move in infinite space”. This is just like the images presented in Hadid’s works: the artistic charm of Hadid is in the eternally flowing curves, which circulates constantly for a new life; meanwhile, it permeates in various fields of people’s life, revealing the imagination of the future.
Featuring space fluency and sense of sculpture, the crossover works of Hadid present diversified designs out of the architectural theories and practices. In terms of technique and material, they were endowed with unrivaled aesthetics property and are vivid in representing a wise living style. Hadid once said, “My product design enjoys close bond with architectural design, and my early career included projects of interior design and product design, which were critical to me and my team, since different dimensions and diversified media inspire more creativity, and this is indispensible for our design and research.”
The exhibition and artworks
The exhibition presents first ever to the public the collections of How Design Center, including the A rare “Project in Red” sofa, 1988, which well represents the early design style of Hadid. The ‘set to fly’ shaped sofa echoes the features of her first constructed project Vitra Fire Station of Germany (1990 - 1993), embodying the influence of the Floating Space concept of Suprematism.

The Large Vase/Sculpture Model: Motion (2007) is a typical design characterized by Parametricism, with rich spaces and levels created out of lines in motion, enlivening static sculpture with dynamics of dance, showing the designer’s confidence of well handling technology.

This exhibition selects a wide range of crossover furniture works, like desk, lamp, porcelain dish, vase, scented candle, candlestick, accessories, chess, and book, as well as fashion products. The global limited edition of “Field of Tower Chess set” is the miniature of typical Hadid architectural project, making “collecting the building created by Hadid” a reality. As an extreme precious set of three-dimensional pop-ups, another rare limited edition Suprematism Pop up book retrospects the schools of art which enjoys profound relation with Hadid. The gold and silver trays of Serenity Platter series well display paramount nobleness, integrating the controlling power of design with fluidity and stability. Moreover, the exhibition will also present you the latest global limited product designs of Zaha Hadid Design (ZHD) and art derivative products of ZHD in cooperation with other world top brands.
