1. Analyst
工作内容
你是丛林里的一只猴子，你的主要责任是为食物链上的更大的猴子收集香蕉。
你可以完成大部分Excel和PowerPoint工作，记录笔记，发送电子邮件以及给客户打电话，甚至可以处理打印机和取干洗衣物等随机任务。
如何成为analyst
你是从顶尖的本科或硕士课程毕业的，并因此成功应聘成为analyst。或者你非常努力地进行了networking，并从一个不太知名的学校进入。一旦你有了几年的全职工作经验，你将不会以analyst身份入职，因为你的经历经验已经超过一般analyst的要求了。
是的，有些人采用先工作几年再进入投行的方式，但你工作的时间越长，进入投行analyst越难。
年龄范围
大多数analyst都是刚刚从学校毕业，所以年龄范围在22-27岁; 在有服役要求的国家或5年制本科课程的国家（欧洲），该范围的上限会高一些。
薪资
薪资水平因地区和经济状况而异，但大多数1st year analyst至少能拿到10万美金的收入（基本工资+奖金），如果经济状况良好，可能会高达15万美元或更高。
2nd，3 rd year analyst会涨工资，对3rd year analyst来说，年份好的时候能拿到20万美金，年份不好的时候可能是15万美金左右。
晋升时间
通常需要3年的时间能达到associate。
2. Associate
工作内容
如果analyst是普通猴子，那你是一个更大，更好的猴子，在社交场合更平滑。
如果模型复杂，你仍然主要使用Excel工作，但大多数情况下，你是去检查analyst的工作并确保他不会搞砸。 你花大部分时间来管理analyst，并确保VP的命令得到执行。
在大银行中，你处理交易时的大部分时间都花费在与客户交谈，并寻找他们需要什么; 而analyst们太忙以至于无暇与客户互动。
你参加的会议比analyst多的多，但除非MD需要你提供数据，否则你在会议中还是不够开口说话的资格。
如何成为associate
你可以作为analyst工作3年并获得晋升，或者你在另一个行业工作3 - 5年后从一个顶尖的MBA课程毕业，并因此应聘成功。
理论上讲，如果你已经从MBA课程毕业并工作了一段时间，你是可以应聘成为associate的，但这种情况并不十分常见。如果你还在学校学习并准备应聘associate职位的话，成功几率会大很多。
年龄范围
由于员工来自更加多元化的背景，因此这一变化超过了analyst的年龄范围。 25-35是比较保守的估计，因为有些员工直接从analyst队伍中晋升，而另一些则从商学院招聘。25岁以下进入associate队伍几乎是不可能的。
薪酬
同样，associate的薪酬差异比analyst薪酬更大，因为奖金占了员工薪酬的大部分，而且这很大程度上依赖于经济变化。
在糟糕的一年中，1st year associate可能会获得15万美元到20万美元的奖金，而更高级的associate（3年和4年）可能会在好的年份拿到接近40万美元或50万美元。
如果你的团队水平还不错，而且经济状况正常，那么你的薪水就会在这个范围内。
获得晋升的时间
通常需要3 - 4年的时间才能获得VP的职位，并且难度比从analyst到associate要难得多，你需要更多的领导力和客户管理能力。
3. Vice President
工作内容
再次向上移动金字塔，你是一只更大更有威力的猴子，你下面有很多的普通猩猩等待着你去指挥。
你要确保交易和项目书完成，你向MD和Director解释他们想要的内容，并确保analyst们的工作不出纰漏。
你可以获得更多的客户互动的机会。
随着你的晋升，你的工作重心必须开始转移到关系发展和赢得客户上，这是非常艰难的，也是最困难的过渡之一。
如何成为VP
作为associate工作3 - 4年后获得晋升。
从投行以外的行业进入投行VP是极其少见的。 VP需要拥有处理交易和赢得客户的技能，是需要长期在银行业务中工作才能积累到的。
年龄范围
因为你必须经历从associate晋升的过程，所以我们可以说年龄范围是28-40岁，大部分的VP年龄在这个范围的中位数上。
薪资
由于奖金在薪酬总额中占了非常高的比例，因此变化范围也就更大。 基础工资不会随着你的晋升而增加（甚至MDs可能只有大约15万到20万美元的基础工资）。
大多数VP的收入将在30万美元到100万美元之间。

4. Director/ Senior Vice President/ Principal

但是，无论你的角色是什么，如果你想进入下一个层次也就是ManagingDirector的话，你就必须要发展自己拓展客户的能力。
如何成为SVP
你已经成功晋升为VP，并且在担任VP几年之后，被提升到这个级别。 几乎难以见到一个非投行工作者能够成为VP的例子。
年龄范围
有时候你可以更快地得到提升（2年而不是3-4年），所以这个年龄范围会是30-45。 45是上限，只有当这个人在进入商学院和投资银行之前从事其他事业一段时间，才会在这个年龄阶段才到SVP的级别。
薪酬
SVP的薪酬很难说因为它介于VP和MD之间; 范围会在40万美元到150万美元。
与其他薪酬数据一样，如果你的表现不好（你的平仓数量很低或者不存在），并且经济状况也不好，你的薪酬就会低一些，反之亦然。
晋升时间
与其他级别相似，几年时间从SVP到更高一级：Managing Director。 2-3年是一个具体的数字。
5. Managing Director
工作内容
你是丛林之王。 所有其他黑猩猩都会听从你的指挥。你就像一名国际象棋特级大师一样指挥你的士兵，主教和骑士移动。
作为MD90％的时间话费在赢得客户，和公司会面和发展关系上。你飞遍各地去参加会议，与私募和风险投资公司会面，并为CEO提供建议然后拿下交易。
偶尔如果有大量且复杂的交易，并且有可能面临失败，你就要参与谈判。 或者，如果你与投资者或买家有特殊关系，可以向他们推荐客户。
但除此之外，你的工作几乎都是拓展新的业务，并且站在幕后指挥你的下属去执行具体的内容。
如何进入MD
大多数情况下，你的职业生涯一直都在投行度过，而且之前你曾在IB的各个层面工作过，大部分时候是跨越多家不同的银行的。
有时你会看到从其他领域进入该行业的MD（例如，一家专注于公司和证券法律的律师事务所的合伙人，或一位已经失去理智并想要回到卖方的PE合作伙伴）。
但即使在这个水平上，这些情景也很少见，而你在大型银行看不到这种情况。
年龄范围
年龄范围在这个级别很难定义，因为一些MD可能一直就留在这个职位上了，或者至少在退休年龄之前都在这个岗位。对于大多数银行家来说，这是他们职业生涯的最高级别了。
