Do you agree or disagree that it is important to learn about the history of the city you stay in?

你是否同意：了解你所居住的城市的历史是很重要的。

历史文化的好处，我们可以先从历史本身进行分析。首先，History helps us see the world around in a new way. 比如，习以为常的自来水其实也大有学问，你有没有想过其背后的城市供水机制呢？How many people know where their water comes from, who tests it for purity, or how society evolved to safeguard such controls?

其次，了解过去，才能认识当下和未来。The past caused the present, and then the future. History helps us understand change and how the society we live in came into being.

再者，了解历史，更是能够引以为戒，躲避危险。A deep knowledge of the past will inform your actions, and hopefully prevent you from making the mistakes of your ancestors.

最后，了解历史能够更好地认知自我，History provides sense of identity.

除去这些历史本身存在的意义，历史更会给我们带来一些附加的好处：首先，了解历史，可以锻炼我们的理解能力和思考能力。History helps us learn how to take in vast amounts of information and, most importantly, to accept the fact that many problems have no clear-cut answer. 其次呢，历史更是一个很好的聊天话题，便于社交。

Some schools teach students world history, while others teach students history of their own country. Which do you agree?

一些学校教学生世界历史，另一些学校教学生自己国家的历史。你同意哪个？

这道题目，如果选择自己国家的历史，可以从sense of identity的角度说，增加民族认同感；可以从study pressure的角度说，减轻学习负担。如果选择世界历史，可以从understand change的角度说，更好地认识当今世界；可以从social life的角度说，更容易和其他国家的人交流；此外呢，学习世界历史有利于理解本国历史。
