英国埃塞克斯郡警方11月1日晚发表声明说，警方目前认为上月发生的货车惨案39名遇难者均为越南人。
全面负责此案遇难者身份调查工作的警官蒂姆•史密斯在声明中说：“目前我们相信遇难者是越南公民，警方正与越南政府保持联系。我们与越南和英国的一些家庭进行了直接接触，我们相信已经确定了部分遇难者家庭。”
At this time, we believe the victims are Vietnamese nationals, and we are in contact with the Vietnamese Government. We are in direct contact with a number of families in Vietnam and the UK, and we believe we have identified families for some of the victims whose journey ended in tragedy on our shores.

对这个消息，CNN和BBC也做了报道，终于承认受害者“不是中国人”了 。
The 39 people found dead in the back of a truck in England last month are believed to be Vietnamese nationals, Essex Police said in a statement Friday.
埃塞克斯警方周五在一份声明中说，上个月在英格兰货车后部发现的39名死者是越南公民。
Police initially said it believed the victims were Chinese nationals, but last Friday they announced that their assessment was "now a developing picture," after there were reports of missing individuals in the Vietnamese community.
警方最初认为遇难者是中国公民。但是上周五，越南有失踪人员的报道之后，警方宣布此事件“还没有定论”。

All 39 people found dead in a refrigerated lorry in Essex were Vietnamese nationals, police have said.

The victims were found in a container on an industrial estate last week and were initially thought to be Chinese.

Indeed. Imagine if the Vietnamese Police assumed all white folk were German when instead they were English or Welsh I guess

Lol, 'might'. No, they generalised and assumed, which is the wrong thing to do in situations like this. What if relatives had been looking for Vietnamese people. They would ignore this as it's stated Chinese.
笑死了，报道里说的可不是“可能”。他们这样的假设和笼统的概括是很不负责任的，也是错误的。如果有越南的亲戚一直在寻找受害者呢？就因为媒体报道都是中国人，可能会让他们错失机会。
