11月4日,据美国多家媒体报道,美国快餐食品巨头麦当劳宣布,解雇公司CEO史蒂夫·伊斯特布鲁克(Steve Easterbrook),因其与一名员工保持恋爱关系。

McDonald’s said Sunday that it has fired Chief Executive Steve Easterbrook for violating company policy by having a consensual relationship with an employee.
麦当劳周日表示,该公司解雇了首席执行官史蒂夫·伊斯特布鲁克,原因他与一名员工存在双方自愿的亲密关系,违反了公司规定。
The company said in a release that the board determined Easterbrook “demonstrated poor judgment” by engaging in the relationship.

公司在一份新闻稿中表示,董事会认为伊斯特布鲁克维持这一关系“表现出其糟糕的判断力”。
McDonald’s did not provide other details on the relationship. The company said Easterbrook would be replaced by USA President Chris Kempczinski, 51, effective immediately.
麦当劳方面并未透露这段关系的其他细节。麦当劳美国地区负责人克里斯·肯普钦斯基将替代伊斯特布鲁克,即刻生效。

Kempczinski has previous experience at PepsiCo, Kraft and Procter & Gamble. He has been with McDonald’s since 2015, when he joined the company as its executive vice president of strategy, business development and innovation. He was promoted to head U.S. operations in 2017.
肯普钦斯基曾在百事可乐,卡夫食品和宝洁公司工作过。2015年他加入麦当劳,担任执行副总裁,负责战略、业务发展和创新。2017年,他被提升为美国业务负责人。
Enrique Hernandez Jr., chairman of McDonald’s board, said in the press release that the board believes Kempczinski has “the vision and drive” to continue the company’s “strong” performance, noting that Kempczinski was instrumental in developing McDonald’s strategic plan.
麦当劳董事会主席赫尔南德斯说,肯普钦斯基在制定麦当劳的战略计划方面发挥了重要作用,董事会相信他有“远见和动力”,能带领公司继续维持“强劲”表现。

伊斯特布鲁克在执掌麦当劳的期间也做出了不菲的成绩。他1993年加入麦当劳。2015年初,在公司出现30年来美国市场史上首度销售额下滑之际,他临危受命,出任CEO。在他的带领下,麦当劳的市值如今翻了一番。

周日,伊斯特布鲁克给员工写了一封公开邮件,承认自己违反了公司关于个人行为的相关规定。他写道:“这是一个错误。考虑到公司的价值观念,我同意董事会的决定,是时候离开了。

很多人的关注点在consensual一词上,既然是两情相悦,为什么要解雇人家呢?

So, why is a consensual relationship a bad thing? This seems very odd.

I met my wife at work. Spent so many hours there.

This is shocking, lots of people have flings at work. Who are McDonalds to tell anyone what to do, when they serve food that isn't even good for you.

但也有网友支持公司的决定,认为上下级关系中从来没有“双方自愿”一说:

Easterbrook is an idiot!! First year managers at the lowest level know that it is a violation of judgement, policy, and good sense to have relations with a subordinate. How foolish. He should be fired!

伊斯特布鲁克太蠢了!初级小经理都知道跟下属谈恋爱是违反规定的。蠢死了,炒掉他是对的!
