Message from Senior Management Team, Deans of Faculties, Dean of Graduate School and Dean of Student Affairs


Dear students,
There has been a number of incidents on campus related to the expression and posting of opinions, and responses to them. We are concerned about some of the behaviour displayed by HKU members holding opposing views. Such acts are not representative of the values of HKU staff and students.


We would like to remind all members of the University to exercise restraint, observe established protocols, and follow basic courtesies when expressing opinions on campus.
The fundamental principle and longstanding tradition of the University is that members with differences of opinion are welcome to engage in robust exchanges and debates, but must do so in a manner that respects the rights of others to do so, to remain civil in our manner, and exercise deliberate tolerance. This is essential to maintaining an open and free atmosphere of reasoned discourse on our campus, to securing the freedoms of our university environment, and to treating each of us as a member of the same HKU family.
