Driverless vehicle begins delivery service in XM

A driverless vehicle containing 22 postboxes and a user interface for package pickups began providing delivery services last week between a distribution station near the Number One Wharf bus terminal and the Jiaotong Building one kilometer away. Transit authorities said that the vehicle's distribution range may be extended in the future.




Shapowei hosts short film competition

A short film competition entitled The Shapowei that You Don't Know kicked off last week in Xiamen. The event includes 30 teams and more than 120 students from the Chinese mainland and from Taiwan as well as Ireland. The competition challenged teams to produce, film and edit five-minute films about Shapowei over the course of 48 hours.

The event is part of a series of activities for an exchange week sponsored by the Vogue College of Xiamen University of Technology and by the subdistrict of Xiagang Sub-district as well as the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Siming. The exchange week is designed to bring together students and teachers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

At one time the only approved port for ferries servicing Taiwan, Shapowei currently hosts a business incubator base for young Taiwan youth entrepreneurs.


Art expo set to showcase contemporary artworks

The annual Art Amoy and the inaugural Contemporary Art Expo is slated to open on June 6 at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. The four-day events will display 10,000 pieces of artwork collected by 80 galleries in a dozen countries.
Haicang debuts solar-powered electric vehicle charging station

Haicang recently unveiled the solar-powered Chuyuan Xiaoju Charging Station at Chang Gung Hospital. The first of its kind in Fujian, the facility combines charging stations with photovoltaic power generation and energy storage.
The 10-million-yuan facility is privately operated. Covering more than 1,000 square meters, the station can support the simultaneous charging of up to 66 new-energy vehicles (including buses, taxis and private vehicles). The charging station also provides battery replacement service for new-energy vehicles.
The facility is powered by more than 30,000 square meters of photovoltaic solar panels generating 3.2 megawatts of power, sufficient to output 15,000 kilowatts-hour of electricity per day.

Inaugural Xiamen International Children's Art Festival to debut on June 1

The inaugural Xiamen International Children's Art Festival will kick off on June 1 with a parent-child cultural forum at the Wutong campus of the Xiamen Music School. The festival is hosted by the Xiamen Banlam Grand Theatre with support from the Xiamen Women's Federation.
The festival encompasses a range of events throughout the summer, including a series of cultural performances, art exhibitions and parent-child forums.
Xiamen Daily is offering free tickets for its readers. Individuals can apply for the tickets via the“厦门日报文创周刊” WeChat account.


XM expands subsidies to university graduates new to the city's workforce

来厦就业的“双一流”本科生可领取生活补贴
City officials announced recently that recent first-class university undergraduates who work in Xiamen will for the first time become eligible for a one-time subsidy.
For eligible recipients, the subsidy is deposited directly into the individual's account in the amount of 20,000 yuan for undergraduate degree holders. Incoming employees can submit subsidy applications to their employer for approval and then complete the application process on the city' website (https://app.xmhrss.gov.cn/ggfwwt-portal).
To be eligible for a subsidy, new employees must apply through their employers within one year from their date of arrival at the local employer. For university graduates, the subsidy program is restricted to students who graduated after November 26, 2018.
The program also covers new master degree and doctor program students who graduated after July 10, 2017. Subsidies include 30,000 yuan for master's degree holders and 50,000 yuan for doctoral program graduates.


China Art Festival hosts 50 operas in two days

The China Art Festival opened on May 15 in Shanghai. The two-day festival included the performance of more than 50 operas. Performances during the event included the Gaojia, Hakka and Taiwan opera styles. A joint troupe comprised of actors from Xiamen and Taiwan performed the Sister Ada opera. 
Roofing complete for affordable housing project in Maluan Bay

马銮湾保障房地铁社区一期全面封顶
Local housing authorities announced last week the completion of roofing for the first phase of Metro Community, an affordable housing project set to debut next year. Located in Maluan Bay, the initial phase comprises six independent plots covering 100,000 square meters. The project will be home to more than 4,500 affordable housing units. The housing facility is within walking distance of subway stations for Line Two and Line Six.

BRT system expands use of 5G network for operations and guest services

BRT system representatives recently announced that BRT stations now include passenger access to  4K HD video through China Unicom's 5G network. The city's BRT system uses the Huaqiaodaxue Station System, a 5G network along bus routes and at bus stations that provides precision location updates and coordinates vehicular traffic.
XM ranks in top 10 for air quality in January through April

1-4月全国空气质量排名厦门上红榜
China's Ministry of Ecological Environment released last week a report on air quality in China for the first four months of the year. The list was topped by Haikou, Lhasa and Shenzhen. The Fujian cities of Xiamen and Fuzhou ranked eighth and ninth on the list. At the bottom of the rankings were the cities of Baoding, Taiyuan and Weinan.
