I am xxx, a master student majored in Materials Engineering at xxx University, which is ranked around 10 in China. I am very interested in working with you so I write this email to you.
I have passed the pre-application of the department, and the coordinator advised me submit a formal application to the department for further assessment. I have indicated in the application that I would like to join in your research group, because firstly my research background matches your research topics very well and secondly I am quite interested in working with you world leading scientists.
I would like to describe my research experience in short. Since I was a third year undergraduate student in 2008, I entered the labs to do research on nano materials. My research experience ranged from synthesis of hollow carbon spheres, synthesis of hollow magnetite spheres for microwave absorption, to the synthesis of hollow hybrid between magnetic materials and semiconductors for photocatalysis as well as synthesis of heterostructured Fe2O3-ZnO nanotubes for gas sensing etc. I think my research background matches the research topics in your group very well, so I want to further my PhD studies with the supervision from you. 
Besides, I have some output for the research. In addition, I have got outstanding academic record for both my undergraduate studies and master studies, ranking top 10% out of 350 students and top 5% out of 120 students, respectively. Now as an Erasmus scholarship holder, I am pursuing two master degrees at XXX University, major in International Relations, and XXX University, the master program of Global study. I have got excellent grades throughout my education, and I am highly motivated to keep on with my study and research in the future. (Please find my CV and transcripts in the attachment.)
The Global study program is an interdisciplinary program, which provides me with basic knowledge in sociology, psychology and gender study. It is during this program that I realized interdisciplinary study very desirable and necessary in social science and expect to continue my academic research in such an environment. Meanwhile, my three years’ study in Economics renders me a solid knowledge and prepares me for further study on relevant topics.

啰嗦一下套磁技巧
1. 写套磁信之前，必须做好调查工作，不光有学校或研究所关于老师的个人主页的介绍，还可以根据老师的各种title，到各个委员会的主页找关于老师的介绍，这样就可以在套磁中充分利用这种带有老师个人取向的信息，获得好感！
2. 套磁信的发送是需要策略的。
第一封，直接明了，申明自己的申请意向，清晰说明自己的科研背景、项目论文情况、掌握技术…同时，如果能结合自己和教授的情况，说明自己能够为项目提供的帮助也是很有必要的。
第二封，差不多在一个星期后，追发。
如果老师给你第一封，有response，第二封当然尽快给老师回复过去，第二封中有针对性的跟老师交流。注意不温不火。让老师在接受你方面没有压力。不要去压迫老师，让老师感觉你太功利了。当然在保证不温不火前提下 ，可以弱弱的提一下自己的计划，比如，博士计划和事业计划。让老师更深刻了解你自己。
如果老师迟迟没有回复，首先看看自己邮箱，最好要gmail或者hotmail，不要qq或者数字邮箱。再次，需要给老师套磁，内容是第一封的信息，大概改改结构，不要一模一样就好。然后重复这个过程。
一般，教授是否回信大多取决于以下几种情况：教授有多忙，你有多优秀，你的英语表达能力，你有多么想为这个教授工作。
并且，套磁信尽量早点开始，这样你可以有更多时间跟教授联系，如果在申请旺季开始，教授的邮箱里会收到茫茫多的套磁信，恐怕能不能看到你的邮件都是问题。
注意：
老师的response中的关键词，比如希望知道你的成绩单，或者你的科研想法。你需要不断补充知识储备，给老师一定积极回复。这些可以整理到word中，在进一步沟通中，附件上。
交流过程中一定要老师主动给你申请进度的回复。不要擅自去催促老师。毕竟在大牛面前，我们没有任何资历。
